Duplicate name in Universe Domain

I am exporting a universe to the repository and am getting “the file name and universe name already exist in the universe domain”. I do not have any backup copies in the universe folder that may be a duplicate. The universe name and description stay the same as this is the production universe. What is the trick?

Sorry for the blank reply before. Clicked twice by accident…

You can overwrite the repository universe. Just set your permissions to allow it.

Listers,

You may also want to be very careful if you have table level security applied to the universe in question. If you overwrite the old universe you run the risk of loosing any and all table level security. I did have this happen when trying to update a universe from a copy that was not current. I believe there is a version number maintained in the repository for each universe and if you are not in sequence with the versions you will get that message when exporting even though the universe name and description are the same.

I don’t think it’s the version number, it’s the Universe ID. If you ever do a Save As operation on a universe to make a backup copy, you lose the current Universe ID. Then if you ever need to restore from that “save as” copy you will get the message as described.

The best way to make a back up copy of a universe, say before undertaking major changes, is to do a straight copy of the file in the operating system.
