Hi,
I have been working on various BO technologies like Webi, Crystal, Xcelsius, Universe and Data Services with SAP and Non SAP Data sources.
I have been offered a job in a company for working on Genesys Infomart.
I have been told to self learn this tool in my notice period which is 45 days(I won’t be given any official training ).
I have been told that it is an ETL tool.
I would like to know if you are aware of what Genesys Infomart is.
Is it a good idea to switch from BO to Genesys Infomart(for a while)?
Do you know where can I get training on Genesys Infomart?
I’ve never heard of Genesys Infomart. But it might be only me being ignorant about other (minor) technologies However, google returns more than 9 millions of results for “SAP Business Objects” keywords whilst only some 300 thousands are returned for “Genesys Infomart”. Make your opinion yourself.
What striked me was that you would have to learn the tool yourself and they will not provide you with the training. That sounds weird to me. On top of that, they want you to learn the tool while you still work for the original company? And you need to find training materials? I personally would not work for them under these conditions.
But that’s just my 2 cents. 8) You need to decide yourself.
Actually I have worked on BO reporting products for around 4 years now and on BODS for 6 months(on self initiated internal project) and I am trying to get into ETL that is the reason I am considering this job opportunity.
But without any official training(or trial version software to play with), it is going to be difficult to learn this tool. Besides nobody seems to know about this tool(maybe it is rarely used). So leaving BO and getting into Info Mart doesn’t seem to be a good career decision.
I will try if I can get into BODS and it will be good for my future career as well.
Genesys InfoMart is a customer interaction data mart/warehouse, that is provided by Genesys Labs of Daly City, CA. They are one of the largest providers of software to the contact center. The InfoMart (supported on SqlServer or Oracle) is populated by the GIM Server, a java-based component. (http://www.genesyslab.com/products/genesys-info-mart/overview.aspx)
You have probably heard it associated with Business Objects because Interactive Insights (the reporting and presentation tool that Genesys uses) is provided through an OEM agreement with SAP. They currently embed BOE XI 3.1 SP5. 40+ reports and two universes are supported within their product offering.
Just picked this one up. Genesys Info Mart GIM) is the contact center data warehouse associated with Genesys suite of enterprise call center software. JustAGuyInNC has posted lots of good high level information.
There are 3 main kinds of work associated with it
ETL software. This software is out of the box and written in java I think. The job might entail setting up Info Mart. This would involve alot of configuration using Genesys software
The schema and data/informaiton. Second big part is understanding the GIM schema so you can develop reports. This is a huge area if you have no experience with contact centers and is still a large task to learn this schema even if you do!
3)BO reporting using Interactive Insight. GIM has a summary layer of data. Interactive Insights is Genesys’ OOB tool for reporting from this summary layer. BO skills are great in order to extend this solution.
