Hello.
As a’ve seen u can’t do that yet. We’ll need to wait for BO 4.1 for that.

Why do we need wait?
As I know for document of unv in previous releases we can use handmade excel files with VBA. May be we can find for BO 4.0?

For unv is working, yes. But not for .UNX.

Can you show info for me about 4.1?

The Excel-hosted solution for .UNV will never work for .UNX because the SDK is not based on VBA anymore. The .UNV solution works fine for 4.0 if you are still using universes from Universe Designer.

Does anyone know of any updates for universe documentation with .unx and 4.1? We have a number of home grown tools that we have gathered together and would like to know some options for these as we migrate to 4.1?
Thanks!

.UNX files are created / maintained via the Information Design Tool. The SDK for IDT is not going to be VBA but instead will be Java, so any existing tools will have to be rewritten as the SDK model evolves. In the initial release I understand that most items are “read only” which should support a universe documentation tool, but anything that requires updates may have to wait.

This all said I found a GREAT tool UNVdoc which documents 4.0 repository.
It is great but wondering if this application will work when the environment is 4.1 and universes are primarily .unx
Anyone ever use this app and if so, did you use it on 4.1 with new .unx universes?

BOETL:
UNVDoc will not work with UNX universes; unfortunately.
As far as this quote:
Yeah, if you want to go backward; this is similar to documenting a universe in the older 3.1 and older versions of BO. Just shows you all the objects in the universe; no detail as the great EXCEL automated scripts.
New version of Universe(UNX) is really worthless as far as making things easier and faster for developers and users alike.

One easy way to document .UNX files without using the SDK may be to take advantage of the fact that they’re (mostly) just zipped up XML.
If you rename a typical .UNX to .UNX.ZIP and unpack it you will see the structure; it’s mostly just a container for a .BLX and a .DFX. These files in turn are also just ZIP wrappers; inside them you will find files with the .BLX and .DFX extensions that are actually just plain text XML. These are likely what you would care about managing in a source control system for auditing purposes.
Caveats to this approach are:

You know, my company has purchased a great software product that does exactly what you want: document a unx universe. I don’t know if I can say the company name but it’s out there. And this software does more than just that, it provides impact analysis, etc…
