Distribute BO server and Webintelligence Server

Hello,

I would like to know, if I can install business Objects in a computer, and its related webintelligence in another machine, and how this could be done.

The reason source is that the client wants to have BO server with an private IP, and then webintelligence service must be done through a public IP.

Thank you for your help!!

Are you talking about installing Business Objects Reporter on one machine and WebIntelligence on another machine? That’s how it is supposed to be set up. Reporter is installed on a PC, WebIntelligence is installed on a server. Did I misunderstand your question?

Perhaps a different way of asking:

You can split out the web server (IIS/ASP or Tomcat/JSP) on one machine, and the core BO server components on another machine.

The web server would be in your DMZ or whatever, and would have enough of the BO web components (Infoview pages, some ORB components) to talk to the 2nd server. The 2nd server is inside your firewall and runs the primary BO server software components.

You need to be looking in the deployment guide for Extranet deployments. What you’re asking for may not be within your current licensing guidelines, so ask BO for help on this one.

External access usually requires an extranet license.

thanks. i didn’t know that about the license. But what do you think about the basic question. Is it possable to handle a large coporations total reporting requirement from centralized servers. Or does it make more sense to use Zabo.

If you limit the discussion to BusObj classic, then I’d say it would be very difficult to meet the “total reporting requirement” (your phrase) totally server-based. Webi simply isn’t robust enough, and running FC reports from Infoview is probably a server killer. We use ZABO for basically those reasons. Now add in the Crystal functionality in XI, and assume Webi will continue to gain more sophisticated ad hoc functionality, and then it might be possible.

Thanks this is good feedback. I guess along the same line. Wether you use Crystal or BO does it make sense to fetch a 10000 to 30000 row report in a web browser. And does it make sense to use a browser to do adhoc query.

To me a browser can be used for lite reports 200 rows and light formatting.

Otherwise the big stuff should be done on the client

Can I put Webi and ZABO on my web server (cluster mgr) and put a master Business Objects (for shared full client) and Broadcast Agent on another server and have the BO/BCA server be a node in the cluster? (5.1)

Peggy,

What do you mean by “shared full client”? You can certainly have BCA on a secondary node, while WebIntelligence runs on the primary node.

Shared full client - master install on an application server, client points to the server executable and uses a shared bomain key - maybe I am not calling it by the correct name?
Then can I put Broadcast Agent on the same server and then make it a node in the WebI cluster to share processing with the cluster manager?
BO documentation says not to put desktop products on the same machine as enterprise products.
Please guide me

Answering my own question - DUH. Network deployed full client BO should not be on the same server as Enterprise BCA or ZABO. I have trouble distinguishing ‘server’ and ‘enterprise’. Sorry.
