Disaster recovery on BO XIR2

We have a failed server which the windows server installation is unbootable and cannot be repaired. No one knows the local admin password. The BO file system is backed up but not the windows registry. Is it possible to create a dual boot windows server instance on the same server, install BO XIR2 and replace the BO file structure with backup file structure to recover content.
Im not sure we can because the content store connection strings are held in the registry.

BIAR files were created but will not import into new installation.

Any advise appreciated.

Is the file structure backup within the server or is it outside. Because if you have your System DB intact , you can install R2 in a new server, point CMS to system and point FRS to the file structure (network) or brin that in to new server hard-drive.

Am i missing something about your situation that prevents this from happening?

The backup has been placed on the same server in a different directory.
It has a mysql content and audit DB. How do I point CMS to system DB and FRS to old file structure.?
Do I just replace the BOE115 db within mysql or replace the whole Business Objects directory including MySQL.

Will this still work when the install is on another windows instance and registry settings are different.

Your help is much appreciated.

Success !!

We are BOL on a new installation.
After completing a fresh installation of Business Objects XIR2 and then stopping all the BO and MySQL services, I replaced the whole of the BOE115 and BOE115_Audit databases in the mysql folder from the backed up file structure. I then replaced the whole of the file store folder within the Program Files/Business Objects folder with the backup copy. I then started up the mysql database service. On the CMS service I then set the mysql account details on the configuration tab. (Default database account name is ‘Business Objects’). I started up the CMS service and was able to log in to CMC and see all the content. I then started up the rest of the BO services through the CCM. Logged in to CMC as administrator I then enabled all the servers and bingo!!!
All the content from the old installation is now available in the new installation.
Hope this helps someone else.
