Disabling Report

Is there way to disable reports (both WebI and DeskI) in XI R2?

There are lots of duplicate and unused reports in our production box which we want to disable defore decommissioning them from server.

Changing user access right is not a straight forward solution as there are huge number of groups with different access privilege. Changing access right require to keep track of report wise group level permission details.

Any other idea how to do?

What is it you exactly mean by ‘disabling’?

Report will be hidden from user or logical deletion of report.

You can put those duplicate and unused reports in one folder (name it as temp) and hide this folder for Everyone group

The solution is not feasible considering the volume of unused report and structural complexity. There are more than 1500 reports spread into 25 report groups used by 862 users. A report named ‘R1’ might be located under different groups. During our initial analysis we have identified some (around 30%) reports as unused (but not confirmed). Moving those huge number of report to temporary folder will lead to confusion during restoration if require.

The same would apply if you want to hide or do anything on the selected reports, unless there is some command or procedure using CMS SDK is available to hide or remove them

We follow something similar to what Wahey suggested. The Admins put all the unused report in a Folder that is visible only to them. After 6 weeks time if no user has asked for a “missing” report we delete the reports inside that folder.
