Different Webi server -- same repository; Personal Documents

Hi,
I’ve seen a number of threads about ‘migrating personal documents’ but not with the same scenario as we have. We are trying to quickly move to a different Webi server for our production repository … due to issues webi is causing to other aps on the server.

My uat webi server is pointing to the production repository… all users, universes and corporate docs seem fine… just as they had been … but we’re having trouble getting the personal documents to work. I copied the entire contents of the storage directory from the former webi server to the current webi server. However, on most of these documents, while we can see them now in personal documents, we are getting the following error when we open them: could not find get string part (error INF). Can anyone suggest a better approach or what could be wrong??? Thanks!

could you post the full error message?

Did you try to opening reports with General Supervisor privileges?

what version of webi is on old and new server?

Hello,
The full error we are receiving on most, but not all, personal storage documents when we try to view them is “Could not get string part (Error: INF )”. I even get this error on 4 out of 5 of the documents that I had saved using the general supervisor id. The 5th docuemnt opened fine.

I am wondering if that error is saying it couldn’t (for some reason) get the actual error message it was trying to display?? As if it was unable to pickup the number of an INF message it wanted to display?? Or perhaps there is something wrong in the installation that is making the error messages unavailable … although I am able to get Help within Infoview.

The version is 61B on both the original server and the current one. We are just trying to move the webi workload to a standalone server … pointing to the same repository we’d been using all along.

I’m not sure what the error is saying, but try this and see what happens:
(I’m assuming you kept the original storage intact.)

  1. Enable sharing on your original storage folder
  2. Verify you can access the share from the UAT server
  3. Stop WebI on the UAT server
  4. Run the Config Tool and change the storage folder path to the share
(I prefer UNC paths to mapped drives)
  5. Start UAT WebI

Any change?
