Different scale in graphs in sections

Most of the time, when I use dynamically scaled graphs in sections, all graphs end up with the same scale, fitting the max value from the section that has the highest data value. In some reports, the scale changes from section to section.

Can anyone explain what causes the report to behave in these different ways? What do I need to watch out for when building the report?

Thanks/Gunnar

Hi,
When you observe the cahnge in the scale, is the difference in the MAX value under each section is large one?

Yes, in many cases, the max value is very different between sections. For example, suitable scale can be 0 to 10 in the first section, 0 to 2000 in the second section and 0 to 50 in the third section. My reports sometimes have several hundred sections. It would be so nice if the scale changed dynamically depending on the range of the data in each section.

Hi,

The difference is the type of chart.
When you set the type to stacked column chart (even though there is only one series to show)
the chart will be scaled for each section separately.

Good to know if you want to force this behaviour.

Good luck,

Right click on the chart, Select Format Chart, go to the ‘General’ Tab, Select the Adjust Scale to Value Range Checkbox.

Using stacked chart type gave me the desired results. I had to make several groups, with just one line per group, but I got the view I wanted.

Thanks Marianne for the tip.
