Hi,
It’s part of the security. You have different level to hide objects. Then in the Supervisor you can define per group/user the level you want to hide or show.

Welcome to B:bob:B!
There is nothing magic about the terms (private, etc.). It is easier to think in simple numbers … Level1 through Level5. By default, the objects (in the universe) and user settings (in the repository) default to Public (Level1) … meaning everyone sees everything. By setting the object levels higher, the only users that can see them are users given that same (or higher) level in the repository.

I’m going to recommend against using these levels anyway. IMHO, you are far better off doing you security more explicitly using Object-Level security. The pre-built levels are too invisible. You have to look everything up individually and set this for each user.

Right: part of the security is defined in the Designer (6 or Xi) and the other part in the Supervisor/CMC. Could be a nihjtmare to administrate like for universe overloads in XI.
Also in Xi Object level security is implemented within a matrix with group and universe folder inheritance.
