You will find this also in your Technical Manuals which is installed with your Designer client as either a PDF or Windows Help File, depending on the version of Data Services you are using.

From the DS 4.1 Technical Manuals, the Reference Guide section, I quote page 1719:

3.6.3.89 mail_to

Captures the specified number of lines in the trace log and error log, packages the information as e-mail,
and uses your Job Server computer’s mail client to send e-mail messages to your local mail server for
standard e-mail processing.

Syntax
mail_to(recipients_list, subject, message, number_of_trace_lines, number_of_error_lines)

And page 1771:

3.6.3.126 smtp_to

Captures the specified number of lines in the trace and error logs, packages the information into an
e-mail, and sends it to the recipient(s) via an SMTP server. This function is typically used in a script,
for example in a conditional clause, while loop, or try-catch block.

Syntax
smtp_to(recipients_list, subject, message, number_of_trace_lines, number_of_error_lines)

This is not a polite RTFM but the Technical Manuals (and in particular the Reference Guide) is often overlooked as a source of answers. Mostly because most documentation supplied by any vendor is not very useful or easy to understand.

However the Data Services Technical Manual is a very well written document (or rather a book combining several documents including the excellent Reference Guide) and provides heaps of great information. I believe that over half the topics in the Data Integrator forum would not have been required if people had realized the answer could be found in the Technical Manual.

Full agree! There is a wealth of information in the standard documentation… I suppose BODS is one of the better documented tools on the market…
