Diff b/w Webi and SAP Crystal Interactive Analysis?

I have combed boards, the SAP site, documentation, and I can’t seem to figure out what the difference is.

Is SAPCIA just a version of Webi for customers that don’t have Crystal Reports Server/Edge/BOE?

Is it essentially the same as the Webi rich client?

I believe SAP announced that they were changing the name of Web Intelligence to that, but later changed their mind and kept the old name.

That’s what I was thinking too.

On page 31 of this doc:

They talk about the renaming, but on the website Web Intelligence is still talked about with respect to SAP BO 4.0.

So, what is SAP Crystal Interactive Analysis then? A disconnected replacement for Deski?

SAP consulted the user community and had found there’s a strong objection to changing the WebI name. Therefore, they cancelled the name change of that tool.

There was also a strong (maybe even stronger) objection to SAP dropping Deski, but they still did it anyway. There’s just no telling what SAP may or may not always do…

Maybe they realized how ridiculous it was to try to call it a “Crystal” product; seeing as it has nothing at all to do with legacy Crystal products.

This is different though. DeskI has become the “odd man out” and it was the decision of Business Objects SA to sunset DeskI BEFORE they were acquired by SAP.

It was also a much cheaper decision to switch the name back… :wink:

Prior to the SAP acquisition, I don’t think that executive decision (ie. dropping deski) was ever even close to officially being made.
Never the less, the point is that a large majority of the BO user community made it quite clear that they were very much against Deski being dropped, but the brass ignored the masses and ordered the Deski tombstone & plot anyway. :nopity:
So much for fighting city hall…
