Deski to Webi Migration best method ?

Dear All,

I need to convert the deski report(3.1) to webi report(4.0).
Two ways u can do that:

  1. deski 3.1 --(report conversion tool)–> webi 3.1 --(upgrade management tool)—> webi 4.0.
  2. deski --(upgrade management tool)—> webi 4.0.

Converting the deski report from 3.1 to webi 4.0 the folders structure cannot be moved, by default the deski reports goes to report conversion tool folders, from there u have to move the file manually to the desired folder.
if u are following the first method, here again the same method discussed above as to be done in 3.1 version from there we can use the upgrade management tool(UMT) to move into 4.0, here i guess the folder structure are replicated exactly the same. so no need to maintain the structure here.

 My confusion is to choose which method is the easier one. i feel the 2nd scenario will be the simple one rather than doing the conversion twice.
kindly help me on this!!:hb:!!:hb:!!! also state some advantages and disadvantages between these methods!!

Suman

You seem to only focus on the folder structure but is it realy the key point ?

What is the main problem ? To have your reports converted with success.

I think you should first duplicate your reports and work in a dev environment. Here, make a test using your two paths. In each case, what is the number of reports successfully converted, those which requires manual adjustment. As editing or recreating the reports which have not been succesfully converted is very time consuming, I thing this test will give you the best choice.

ps ; how many reports do you have to migrate ? 50 ? 500 ? 5000 ?

Dear Bernard,

Thanks for your reply.

I need to convert around 700 deski reports.
I have already tried the steps, what u have suggested.
I prefer DeskI 3.1 ----> WebI 4.0 Conversion using RCT. I am little bit scared to proceed in this method, without knowing the flaws in the method.

Thanks again.

in all case, you have to manualy make Q/A for all each report and refresh it before / after to check there is no regression. I think it is the only way to achieve it cleanly

Dear Bernard,

Thanks once again for your reply,

I got cleared regarding the folder issue, using the UMT we can even move the entire folder structures to 4.0.

I tried to convert a deski report to webi from 3.1 ----> 4.0, the report successfully got converted but when i tried to refresh the report it gives me an error : The spefied DSN contains an architecture mistach between the driver and the application.

When i googled about this, i found out this is regarding 32bit & 64bit driver related problem. They have stated to modify or remove the DSN from 32 bit. I dont know how to proceed, can you help me in this!!!

Regards,
Suman

Did you get any solution for which path to choose

  1. Deski to webi 3.x and then webi 3.x to webi 4.0
  2. Deski to webi 4.0

Many thanks,
