Design Studio dimension sorting

Is it me? I have a really simple data source:

dimension: date (and it is a date)
dimension: location (string)
measure: count crimes

So I try to set my initial view for the data source. I can see my data. What I want is a normal everyday line graph, with one series for each of 3 locations. Count on the Y axis and date along the X axis. Can I get it to work? NO. :hb:

If I set up the view as above, there is no way to sort the X axis (ie in date order). The only sort appears for the series. So I get my locations alphabetically. Wow. Not.

If I remove my locations, I have no sorts at all. The only way I can get a date sort is by putting date on the Y axis, which is just plain silly.

Am I missing something?

Haven’t worked in Design Studio yet, but sounds like you may need to pivot your data externally. Is your data source from a universe or WEBI? Not sure of your connection type. For example, a crosstab in WEBI would allow the sorts you need while summarizing/pivoting your data into periodicity. Or, use a dynamic sort in the spreadsheet data.

Have you sorted the date rows in the data source initial view (right click it).

There isn’t the option in the initial view. I can only sort my series (which plots over Y axis). There is no sort arrow on the X axis at all.

And my data is from the universe via a webi-style query, which - without any of the other SAP bumph - is my only option to get data from a database.

If you right click the dimension in the ROWS box in ‘Edit Initial VIew’ do you not see a Sort option?

Oooh. Didn’t see a right click. I was trying to use the arrows on the display bit. Thanks for that.

Leads me onto other issues though. :wah:
