Daylight savings Time change Impact

Is there any impact to BOXI R2 caused by the change in DST date? I believe in that past when I looked into time issues, BOXI just used the datetime provided by the server , and did no adjustment internally.

We have similar concerns.

We have BO XI R2 installed on Solaris with BOXIR2SOL_CHF_20060601 (mlb) applied and working well. Should we then go ahead with DST patch application (BusinessObjects XI Release 2 CHF15)? Also, there is a dependency on MHF1 so we would have to apply that too.

Any views?

Thanks.

Business Objects says the Server OS must be updated. (Windows or Unix)

For Windows Server: the Windows Server OS must be updated
and also the Sun Java and BOXI has a patch to work with those.

1st MUST UPDATE Windows Server from MICROSOFT
2nd MUST UPDATE Java (from SUN JVM)

ASSUMING for BOXI R2 with SP1 already installed

3rd. Before installing CHF15, you must install Monthly Hot Fix (MHF) 1
4th APPLY the CHF15 (cumulative Hot Fixes 15)

davidmc: Your post makes sense, but does it matter what order those are updated? I’m guessing not.

I actually opened a case with Business Objects support about the order of installing the DST patches. They said that the order DOES NOT MATTER. I have this documented in an email from them if something goes wrong

What’s unclear to me is the JVM piece. At http://support.businessobjects.com/downloads/daylight_savings_faq.asp, they are saying to update your JDK to 1.4.2_11 and refer to Sun’s TZupdater tool. The TZupdater tool is essentially a patch – it doesn’t upgrade the JDK. What is Business Objects trying to say? Update your JDK to 1.4.2_11 or patch it with the TZupdater tool? Does it matter? They are pretty vague on suggesting which to do. I’ve also reopened my support case with them. It’s been several days so far and no answers.

Does anybody have any feedback?

I was just told by Business Objects support that they recommend patching your JDK using SUN’s TZUpdater tool instead of upgrading the entire JDK.

Also, this particular support person said that there is a particular order you should follow when installing the DST patches. He said to install the OS patch first, then the JDK/JVM patch, and then CHF15. This contrasts to what another Business Objects support person recommended to me earlier which was that there was no particular order. Hmmmm.

Has anyone installed CHF15 and the Monthly Hot Fix (MHF) 1 ?
Any idea on how long the two take?

I’m just trying to figure out how long I should tell our users we’ll be down for. Thanks!

It would probably take about 30-45 minutes to complete the patch, depending on the speed of your server. If you have any Virus scanning running, try disabling this for when the installation is running. Also, don’t forget to redeploy the WAR files when complete.

For the JVM, we are going to go with the tzupdater tool, to minimize risk.

I tried the link above and it didn’t work as well as CHF15 isn’t out for public use yet.

If we are not using Java but rather .net, do we need to bother with the JVM updates?

BusObjGuy :us: (BOB member since 2002-10-17)

What are you talking about? It has been out for weeks.

There is a link on the tech support site.

I just went out to the ESD site and I can’t see the CHF15 out . Just CHF 14. Maybe you are on the first customer list for release Steve?

BusObjGuy :us: (BOB member since 2002-10-17)

The message about CHF 15 came out in early January. It’s not on ESD:

I take it we non-US installations can just ignore all this?

According to BO, even non-US/Canada/Bermuda users should upgrade:

Hi,
We are running BOXIr2 SP1 MHF1 on IIS .NET for both internet and application server. I was wondering if redeploying .WAR and upgrading JDK using TZupdater tool from Sun is applicable in our situation? Both the .WAR and JDK release notes make specific TomCat references so I am not clear if IIS .NET deployments need to do the same. Any information would be appreciated, thank you.

bwboxi (BOB member since 2002-09-05)

Are you running .asp or .jsp verison?

If .asp, then JDK and Tomcat don’t come into play at all, do they?

Steve Krandel :us: (BOB member since 2002-06-25)

bwboxi - I think you should upgrade to CHF15, and run the tzupdater tool regardless (just to be safe).

unds :canada: (BOB member since 2006-12-09)

If you’re using the .NET version, you won’t need to re-deploy the .WAR files, as those are for the Java version. However, if you’re using the Java Report Panel, you’ll want to update the JSE with the TZupdater tool…
