datetime data Exception Error

I am running existing reports that were written by my predecessor and when running the report with a current date I am getting the following error

Exception: DBD, [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]The conversion of a char data type to a datetime data type resulted in an out-of-range datetime value.State: 22007

There are a few reports that I run which get this error and although I understand that the date is ‘Out of range’ I’m not quite sure how or why as the dates I am entering are current and correct. Any advice would be warmly welcome.
