DataDirect ODBC Drivers

I have an Oracle datastore that has stopped connecting in Designer on my client machine – I’m getting the old error “Cannot find NT Oracle Server DLL <OCI.DLL>.” I haven’t had to modify anything in a while and I can’t remember how it was set up. I don’t currently have the Oracle client installed; I think I was connecting through the DataDirect Oracle Wire Protocol ODBC driver, which doesn’t require an Oracle client.

I see I have the drivers in the 64-bit ODBC, but not in the 32-bit ODBC. Yet I think I have the 32-bit client installed; is there any other way to tell other than which Program Files directory it’s in? I went into the installer and the drivers were selected. But if the drivers and the program were the same version then it ought to work. Note that the driver directory is in my Path variable.

Or do you absolutely need the Oracle client? Is there a way to tell Data Services which method to use? I have Oracle SQL Developer but it has it’s own built-in connectivity. I apologize for not being able to remember how I had it set up, nor what may have changed to cause this.

with regards to your DS client, if you open task manager while it’s running, you should see *32 behind the process if it is a 32-bit executable. If not, it will be a 64-bit executable.

Keep in mind that as of DS 4.2 SP05, the 32-bit Designer no longer exists. So if you’re on DS 4.2 SP05, I can guarantee you that you will be on a 64-bit Designer

Well, now I feel stupid, but thanks very much. Looks like we are running the 64-bit client, although we’re still on 4.0.
