data source as Excel spreadsheet ?

Hi All,

I need to build a report where it gets some data from Universe and some data from excel spreadsheet.

I can connect to the universe but what is the process to connect it to the excel as well. Right now I have excel on my desktop , where do i need to place it and how to connect.

Any insight to this will be greatly appreciated.

For excel, Select Data source as ‘Database Files’ in new connection and select the excel file and build the report.

You can also export the Crystal Report to Enterprise and run it from Infoview.

This approach works only if i run the report from my desktop and does not run from infoview. I was wondering if I have to upload excel somewhere , so that it becomes available to everyone and the report can be run from anywhere but I do not know where do i save the excel.

Any clue?

Crystal Designer will take care of it while exporting to Enterprise… No need to export the excel file separately.

This is the error I am getting in Infoview when I run the report

" Error in File reporttest1.rpt: Failed to load database information. "

Here are the steps I performed:

  1. Created a test.xls file on my desktop.
  2. Created a report in crystal pointing to database files and selected test.xls from my desktop.
  3. Ran the report , runs fine and now saved it on infoview.
  4. Run the report from infoview and getting an error " Error in File excel_test1.rpt: Failed to load database information."

What am I missing here?

What is the excel version that you are using …? Can you save the excel file in 2003 format and try once again …?

Format should be .xls and not .xlsx

The only other difference I see is the version of BO. I am using BO XI 3.2 sp3 and the crystal report that I developed based on excel file on my desktop runs perfectly fine in Infoview.

There may be limitations in XI R2 version.

There might be a difference due to version, but for now I am just trying to get this resolved with the current BO version i e XI R2.

Has anyone come across and resolved this issue??
