Data Services Client 4.2 SP3

Just upgraded to 4.2 SP3 and installed the DS Client (14.2.3.549) on my local machine.

When I try and launch the Designer app I get an error stating AL_Designer DLL has stopped working.

Anyone else had this?

Thanks

What happens if you try running the Designer as Administrator? (right click -> Run as… etc)

Got an Admin to run the app and it opened fine. Must have something to do with permissions then.

Strangely thought, it worked for me straight after the Admin ran it but now it’s crashing again…???

Do you have full local admin access on your PC?

The Designer (which is on its way out) is coming from the old days of Windows 9x and Windows XP where every user had full local admin access to their own PCs - I have experienced quite some issues with the Designer, in particular the OCX’s that drive the window-docking features of the Designer UI, when no local admin access has been provided or when the local drive on the workstation has been completely sealed off.

I lost my local admin rights when our PCs were upgraded to Win7.

What do you mean when you say the Designer “is on its way out”?

SAP is working on an Eclipse based version of Designer. Parts of it are already working.

I think you’re talking about the SAP Workbench?

I really hope that the Designer keeps maintained until all the features are built into the Workbench!

Yes, that’s what I meant, I just couldn’t remember the name.

Hello guys, I join the discussion cos I suffered the same error…

I install DS 4.2 SP3 in my laptopn under Windows 7 and when i start it once, it works perfect

but if I close it and try to start it later…it doesnt work, it says the Dll stopped working.

As before someone said…it’s due to the old days of Windows 9X and Windows XP

TO SOLVE THIS ISSUE==>Go to the installation folder, find the Designer.exe and right click==>Properties==>Compatibility tab==>Run in compatibility Mode (Windows XP SP3)

Now when you try to start Designer, will run under “Windows XP” and will run good!

Good luck, ciaooo!
