FYI: I am a newbie in the BOB and don’t use English every day.
My particular task is as follows: I use BO XIR2 and in DI I am prompting one time period (e.g. Q1 2008) and would like to see some measures for that period and for the same period for the previous year (i.e. Q1 2007) in a report.
Here is my question: What’s the best way to show data for the same period for the previous year according to the requirement described above?
I.e. is there some internal DI solution or it can be done in Universe some way or such measures should be counted in DB or some other alternative?
P.S. There are a lot of measures which I should show that way for end users. So I need some universal and best solution.
Firstly if you are saying English is not your first language, then well done, it is completely legiable. I have seen far worse on this site.
What you are trying to do needs to be done as a filter within Designer. I don’t have the exact code, but realistically I think you want to have the quarter and year as two separate prompts as it is the year that you need to do the logic on.
If you apply a filter to select every record that occurs in a Q1, then that is the easy part.
The second part is to create a filter that then takes the year and does a between calculation based on year between @prompt and @prompt-1
If the range is going to be any greater or could be variable, then I would suggest having two prompts, one for start year, the other for end year and making these your prompted values.
Thanks for your answer very much! My Customers’ requirement is that only one prompt with Qs should be (one Q or several ones can be selected at a time) in the report, and I have just founded that when several Qs are selected, data is displyed separately for (as required!).
But this solution is applicable only when number of measures and dimmensions is the same for different Qs in the report.
Problems appear when structure of data to be displyed in the report is different for different Qs. And as I understand correctly some particular solution on Universe level should take place in this case.
