Data extract from Siemens PLM Teamcenter

Hi All.

Does anyone know if it possible to extract data from Teamcenter using Data Services?

Our onsite consultants tell us that this is not possible, but I am slightly sceptical about this statement.

Is there an ODBC possible?

Apparently not. We have been told that the data is in a proprietry non-relational format.

So how about getting flat files at least? If ODBC wouldn’t be possible then I could think of only this way?

How huge data is? Is that afforadable to do full loads from flat files? How those flat files would be?

Is the system capable to do Delta in the case data is too huge?

Yes, we’ve been told that it is possible to get some output in XML generated by Teamcenter.

I’m just hoping that someone here will have already done this. It seems incredible to me that a tier 1 enterprise application doesn’t have a standard interface for ETL tools.

LOL

How about getting into the Backend database of it? I am not sure…I am just making a guess work here…which I shouldn’t

But a second thought to it…

What version of Teamcenter are you running?

I know there are ways of doing it as we have been looking at it for our use but it may be a seperate module, and dependent on the Teamcenter version.

If you let me know I can ask Teamcenter directly as thats who we are dealing with.

Hi, thanks for replying.

Sorry about the delay but I’ve only just seen your post.

The Teamcenter version used here is 8.3.0.3.

From my recent discussions with TeamCenter there is really only 2 ways to get the data out the system
1. Purchase the Teamcenter Reporting and Analytics module and use that to export data in the form of reports.
2. Build a new connector to BO. Not simply and very expensive, cheaper to buy the above.
Teamcenter tend to want to keep everything within the system, they donÂ’t like handing off to anything else as they deem that as loss of control which they donÂ’t like that in a PLM system and therefore donÂ’t support it out of the box. From looking at the data structure for our needs I can say you wouldnÂ’t want to try extracting data directly from the back end. We arenÂ’t going to try and will probably be using option 1.

Okay, thanks for that.

My client has an Enterprise Data Warehouse and, not unreasonably to my mind, want to get PLM data into the EDW. They have an enterprise reporting tool so they don’t want to buy another reporting product.

Looks like we will have to go with a non-standard XML extract.

Hi Nemesis,

I know this is an old thread but I´m exactly in the same case looking for a solution to extract data from Teamcenter. I´d appreciate if you can share how you were able to extract TC data to a EDW (In our case SAP BW). Have you been able to have the relations beween objects in Teamcenter replicated in the EDW? Did you use T4EA product?

Thanks a lot for any information you can provide.
Best regards

Hi, unfortunately, I left the project before the Teamcenter extract was completed so I’m not even sure if the data ever got extracted.

Nemesis :australia: (BOB member since 2004-06-09)

Ok Nemesis. Thanks anyway. let´s see what can we do.

Regards

I know it’s a bit cheeky, but if you do get some kind of extract working, could you update this thread? Even if it’s just a ‘yes, it’s possible’ kind of comment?

Nemesis :australia: (BOB member since 2004-06-09)

Sure. It seems to be possible using Web services and T4EA. Let´s see.

Any luck with this?
