I just downloaded and install Xcelsius after a few years on BO. I got my first dashboard created and it looks great
BUTas a swf file it is not iOS viewable on the web or as a downloadable pdf
Can someone answer these 2 questions for me so I know what my next step is?
Can you use “Dashboards” (4.0) standalone from BO with spreadsheets like Xcelsius?
Does Dashboards have iOS compatible output options?
Yes, you can design for the Apple crowd. You are limited to “mobile friendly” components that will work with html5. More html 5 components are inevitable in the future.
You’ll need to do some reading:
Dashboard Design 4.0 SP05 or higher: Needed for Mobile (HTML5) features
SAP BusinessObjects Mobile iPad App 4.4.12: Needed to view the dashboard from iPad
I did a bit of searching based on your reply (thanks again) and I have the following question. I am very new at this so please forgive me if I am missing some obvious reality.
I use WebIntelligence every day. I write reports for a living, but I am new to dashboards. The thought here with me and my supervisor is that we could make a very nice web site of statistics for our school using Xcelsius, but we are concerned about serving out swf that are unreadable by a large group of iPhone/iPad users.
Is there are article on your site (or another of which you are aware) that discusses best practices for a web page that serves out stats in dashboards in a format that is easy for most of the world to see? I am not sure yet from my reading if html 5 alone will do it as the first few articles that I saw talked about dashboards that are hosted in the BI platform and i am not looking to save them into WebIntelligence as files or links. i want static data displayed in a dynamic way on the web (like annual, already vetted statistics).
Use the BI Mobile server together with the SAP BI Mobile App (on your iPhone, iPad, and any Android devices) and you will be able to consume Xcelsius dashboards on your mobile device. Although not all XC components are supported on mobile devices, but in Xcelsius (=XC) there is a mobile compatibilty view, which shows you which components are not supported.
I think the point is…without BI Mobile, you cant do what you want. SAP wants you to buy their stuff, even if you want a static dashboard hosted on your own webserver. Its very confusing…at least right now.
Look, from a BOBJ developer standpoint, if all you want is a nice static web page that works for Apple kids, then build a web page and ignore BOBJ. Learn HTML5…there are a billion free charts and templates out there that do fun things…just like Xcelsius does. If you can handle Webi, then you can certainly code HTML 5 pages that look fancy.
Thanks very much for the feedback, I appreciate your patience with my lack of knowledge on the coding part . I will take a look into this with my web site gurus here
