Can anyone out there provide me with live examples of the benefits of using BCA over V4.1.x of DAS? I have heard some benefits such as faster console display (which really annoys me at present!)… Also, I find DAS outputs lots of *.tmp files - many of which contain nothing; others of which contain genuine error messages. Can you also tell me if you have experienced this and if this has improved in BCA?
Melanie,
Off the top of my head, here are some overall benefits of upgrading to BCA: -File watcher
-CORBA architecture. If you have a multi-server deployment, this is huge for load balancing, failover, and scaleability. - Many cutomizable paramters. Whereas with DAS you had about 4 parameters to set, with BCA you have multitudes. This adds flexibility to accomodate different environments.
support for the more universal VB programming language for scripts, allowing for easier integration with other applications - Better support for report bursting and intelligent agents. - full support for Web Intelligence users - report categories
Now the down side:
Must run on NT sever and is more complex to administer - Believe it or not, and contrary to the documentation. B.O. seems to have FORGOT to add a desktop console to monitor BCA from user workstations!
We are in the midst of upgrading now. I’ll post my overall impressions here when we are done.
