DAS as a NT Service

Hi - I’m having problems with DAS running as an automatic NT service. In
fact, it has never started in automatic mode, and now, I can’t even start the
service manually!

We’re BO 4.1.2 (soon to upgrade to 4.1.4) with DAS running on NT 4.0

When I try to start the service manually, I get the following error message:

“Error 2140: An internal Windows NT error occurred”.

When I look at NT’s Event Viewer, it says “The desc for event id (113) in
source (svrDAS) could not be found. It contains the following insertion
string: Can’t start DOCAGSVR.EXE”

If I double click on the docagsvr.exe file via Windows Explorer, DAS will
start up.

Any suggestions??

I am currently using BO 4.1.3. Here is an excerpt from my installation
instructions for DAS:

To setup DAS as a service

  1. Start DOS Window
  2. CD D:\Utils ( this is where SRVDAS.EXE and INSTSRV.EXE exist)
  3. INSTSRV DAS_service D:\Utils\SRVDAS.EXE
  4. Run D:\BusinessObjects\SRVDASDG.EXE
  5. Enter UserID and Password for the DocAgent as specified by the
    supervisor
  6. Select OK
  7. Exit from DOS Window
  8. From Control Panel, click Services
  9. Select DAS_service then click Startup
  10. Ensure that Startup is set to Automatic
  11. OK and Close
  12. From Start button select Programs, Business Objects, Document Agent
  13. Login with the UserId and Password for the DocAgent
  14. From menu, select Console, Options, Advanced Tab
  15. Refresh every 5 minutes
  16. Perform Task Every 5 minutes
  17. OK and Exit

Make sure that ‘BusinessObjectsPath’ is in your system environment
variables. This should have been set when you installed BO.

Hope this helps

When I set up DAS on NT I found that the entire setup must be done when logged into the server with the administrator LOCALLY not logged into the domain.

Once you are logged on locally reinstall DAS per BO’s instructions and all should be fine. Before I discovered this I was getting the same results.
