Original versions of Xcelsius used only excel spreadsheets as the data source.

Xcelsius can now use DB’s as the data source. How this is done should be part of your documentation.

The new Xcelsius can also connect using the existing universes which is probably the best route if you want to integrate with BOE. In order to do that, you have to install the Query as a Web Service piece.

And of course, the pre-requisites of QaaWS is SP2 and Productivity Pack.

Interesting. so once you set up your universe you can map excelsius to that, and use that data source? that must make the deployment rather straightforward then.

Yes, you use QaaWS to pull the data via the universe to be used in Xcelsius. It is pretty straight forward. However, the documentation is rather poorly prepared. You could easily go down the wrong path if you depend on the documentation alone.

Like what kind of other datasource? I reckon one of the moderators should move this topic to the Xcelsius forum, cause we’re getting into too much details. I’ve been using Xcelsius in conjunction with Live Office lately. It doesn’t work half bad.

Done!

You don’t need productivity pack, QaaWS installer is in the SP2 collaterals (or me anyway).

Yes, QaaWS is inside the collaterals folder. However, I was told by BOBJ consultants that the BOE XI r2 Productivity Pack should be installed on the BOE servers to enable the QaaWS and the object extensions for the Repo.

Since I am still in the configuration state…among thousands of other things, I cannot verify that statement yet. But I went ahead and installed the Productivity Pack as there is nothing to lose.

Yes. That’s true. You MUST have Productivity Pack loaded on the server.

There is another post here that says otherwise. SP2, yes … but not the Productivity Pack. I haven’t tried QaaWS WITHOUT the Productivity Pack myself, but just pointing out at least one other opinion. This is the point where I say “just try it and see, it will either work or it won’t” right!
