Issue: I created a report with Crystal Reports 2008 SP1 and published to our Dev Server. The report ran fine with no issues.
I then published the report to the production server, entered the correct information in custom database logon in the CMC. When previewing, the following error appears:
Error in file: Failed to retrieve data from the database.
I don’t have access to open the report from production into CR 2008 so I can’t test it out that way. Any ideas? Is it an issue with not having the production BOE updated to SP3? Please help.
Here’s my setup:
Dev:
OS MS Windows Server 2003 R2 SP2
BOE XI 3.1 SP3
Oracle 10g
Crystal Reports 2008 SP1
Prod:
OS MS Windows Server 2003 R2 SP2
BOE XI 3.1 (no SP)
Oracle 10g
There have long been known issues with setting “custom database logon” in the CMC if your report has sub-reports, commands, etc.
Is there any way that you can test the RPT from the Crystal Reports 2008 desktop tool if you “Set Datasource Location” directly at the PROD database using the same info you provided for the “custom database logon” in the CMC…?
It should at least give you a more explicit error message.
That is an issue. We’re trying to work that out with our customer. They have a firewall between the Test environment, where Crystal Reports is installed, and production BOE. I was hoping for a revelation from someone. Thanks for the reply.
Are you using a TNSNAME connection to reference the PROD database…?
Do any reports on to BOE (PROD) run OK against the PROD database using that same TNSNAME connection…?
The TEST box is running on Windows because it it is running the desktop CR-2008 application. What platform is the BOE (PROD) server running on - especially the server that is hosting the CRYSTAL JOB SERVER services…?
