Crystal Rep with Dynamic Parameters wont Execute in Infoview

We are using Business Objects XI R2, and have created Dynamic/Cascading parameters based on LOV’s saved in the Business View Manager.

When the reports containing these LOV’s are executed from the Crystal Reports client, they execute perfectly. However, when we publish the reports to Infoview and try to execute them, I receive the error message below:

List of Values failure: fail to get values. [Cause of error: startJavaServer Fail to start Java Server]

When I attempt to access the parameters from the CMC and change the values, I receive an error message stating “Internal Error”

If we execute a report in Infoview that does not contain dynamic parameters, the report runs fine.

Has anyone experienced this issue?

Hello,
We are having exactly the same issue as you.
We have raised it with BO, but have not yet come to a resolution.
I suggest you do the same if you can and perhaps it will hurry them up a bit.
Cheers,
BatCat

We have also raised the issue to BO with no resolution to this point.

Are you aware of any other options to execute Crystal Reports out of Infoview that utilize Dynamic parameters without going through the Business Manager?

We have several reports that require dynamic parameters, and this is the only method I know of to create them.

Hi smh14,
Even if you do not create your dynamic parameters though Business View Manager and instead choose to create them through Crystal directly, the dyanamic parameters will have Business Views created for them, so there doesn’t appear to be any way to escape.
We created our dynamic parameters by just extracting the values brought back by a query in a SQL Command and are running into exactly the same error as you.

We were able to resolve this issue by downloading and installing the latest hot fix to BO XI R2.

The reports containing LOV’s execute with no issues.

We are in the process of testing other functionality with the hot fix but the issue we were having with the reports containing dynamic/cascading prompts appears to be resolved.

I have been dealing with this same issue for sometime now. We have installed the latest hot fixes both on the server and client workstations without any success. I have had several Cases opened with tech support and they are working on finding a solution. The latest was to re-register the prompt.dll file on the server…did that but still get the error “unknown error in propmt.dll engine.” Reports we have with dynamic parameters will run in CRXI R2 just fine, when we publish them to BOXI R2 we get the error message when the prompt value(s) are selected. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Fred

Fred,

Sorry to have misled you. The way we resolved this issue was by performing a fresh install of BO XI R2, and then applying the most recent, cumulative hot fix.

We believe that this issue first came about because we had some miscommunication with Business Objects, and the earlier hot fixes were installed in incorrect order.

After we did the re-install, and then the update with the most recent cumulative hot fix, this issue was resolved in our environment.

Thank you for the additional information. I will suggest the fresh install followed by the hotfixes, and then service packs.

Thanks!

We faced the same issue and the suggestions by tech support fixed this, though administratively it is a painful solution.

Once you load the crystal report with dynamic parameters to the Enterprise Server

On the server, Go
Start >> Bo… > Business View manager.

Login as administrator OR user with admininistrator privileges.

Open tab

Expand down to the _DC component of the dynamic prompt

Open

Go to Rights
Ellipsis
Grant View and Edit rights to Everyone.

The above you have to repeat to every dynamic prompts’ DC object.

You should get the prompt with this.

Now you know why I call it a administratively painful solution.

One issue though, why does crystal or enterprise make you enter the password for each of these prompts. Has anyone faced this issue ?

Thank you. I will give your suggestion a try and see if that works.
