CR2008 SP1 disk space requirements

Hi,
After choosing typical of custom install of CR2008 SP1 in W2003 SP2 , the “determining your disk space requirements” window never finish to calculate. Any ideas?

What exactly do you mean when you say never? How long did you wait for? I know for a fact that this can take quite a long time with some of the BOE SPs, so it might take a while, depending on CPU, memory, etc.

Thanks wahey for the reply,
No doubt its a kind of bug. It could take more than 5 hours. This case is also posted in SDN forums “Crystal Reports 2008 SP0 hangs” but there’s no answer.

Same installer files worked in other pc.

please , any ideas?

Solution :
Follow this steps :

  1. Enter to typical installation mode
  2. Go back
  3. Enter to custom mode
  4. Disable all products
  5. Click Restore
  6. Click next

this steps worked to force the calculating space requirements

thanks!

is everything should be that painful :hb:

I did install it to one machine problem free…

Another one hangs up, and proposed solution won’t work…

an interesting bug…

here is my workaround:

go back to initial phases of the installation and add french into language packs.

then pick custom installation.

don’t play with anything.

and click to next…

at least it works for me

I believe French is the best language to curse

The solution from MrH - installing the French language pack then use custom install - worked a treat for me. Cheers

I didn’t even realise this was a bug, thought it was something wrong with my VM.

Confirmed, I chose a custom install, then added the Mapping component, and it worked fine.

Cheers

Thank you so much for this!
I’ve trying to get past this issue all day today installing CR 2008 SP1 (the same issue still exists in SP1) and finally adding French and chosing custom install worked! Thanks again!!

Sheer Genius…install an uninstall to register everything, modify install to get everything the way you want it…sweet. now SP2… :cuss:

Having the same problem - windows 7 this time… I tried also a lot of things… changing setup language…
but deselecting my desired language - selecting french and my language - suddenly it worked…

good luck!

I was having the same issue installing SP1 for crystal and while this seems like the craziest answer, it did work for me too!

Thanks!

I just wanted to add my comments as the above 2 solutions didn’t work for me. I was installing CR XI R2(11). I found an article sap note 1335209 - Crystal Reports 2008 installation hangs that resolved my issue. I disable our symantec endpoint virus scanner and it allowed me to continue.

I notice that the screen windows changed too and so this may be an indication that it is not or is working.

Where you choose Typical or Custom, when it wasn’t working, I only get the destination folder field. When it worked, it also get the comman files folder destination field. go figure.

Hope this helps others.

Just adding my two cents - the above solutions didn’t work for me, perhaps because my company installs mcafee in a manner that it cannot be removed, it can only be stopped temporarily, then it restarts itself after about 2 minutes.

anyways, I had the problem with the installation hanging at the registering components area. When I looked at task manager, I saw four tasks for MSIEXEC. Two of those had a username of SYSTEM and the other two had my windows login name. Of the ones with SYSTEM username, one was ~25K and the other was ~5K of memory usage. I did end task on the smaller one, then the install continued on again for several more DLLs, then stopped again. I repeated the process stopping that MSIEXEC with SYSTEM username and ~5K memory usage and the install continued. I had to repeat this several more times, but the install eventually got past that point and said that it completed.

I had the same problem installing the service pack, and again this solution worked for me. I cannot say for sure that everything in Crystal is working, but the fuctions I have tried so far are working.

Hope this helps someone.

I had this same issues installing on Windows Vista and XP. The solution for me was to cancel out of the frozen “checking for for disk space” dialog and then clicking the back button until I got back to the language screen. Then, start again. The space requirements screen didn’t even popup. This worked for both machines. I did disable norton during the install, so am not sure if that was a factor, but even after disabling it I was still getting the hang. Bottom line is cancel and back up a couple of screens and then go forward.

I know it might be hard to believe, but adding the French pack and choosing the custom install worked smoothly for me. I also disabled my firewall for good measure. Thanks to whoever figured this out.

You’ll be pleased to know that two years and two service packs later, I had the same problems solved by adding French to my fresh download of CR2008 SP3.

Selecting typical, previous, de-select all, reset, next worked for me with CR2008 SP3.

Thanks!

Unbelievably, this worked. I was experiencing the same problem with CR 2008 SP5 on Windows 2008 32bit and this fixed it.

Thanks, Javier
