CPU Usages 100% - WIReportServer & cms

I am using Eneterprise XI 3.1 and have noticed that the CPU is contantly running at around 100% usage. This consist or 30% cms.exe and 30% to each WIReportserver.exe (We have 2 WIReportserver.exe).

Can’t understand why this is occuring, anyone have any ideas on how to identify why this is occuring and how to resolve the issue.

Many Thanks,

Richard

Hi,

did you check the load on the server?

You might have users running webi reports in numbers so your webi servers are occupying the CPU.

Same reason could be for the CMS.
Or submit exact statistics abt your environment. No of users logged in at the time CPU is consuming high memory, No of Reports being run , scheduled also you can go through BO documentation to know other load factors.

Sorry I should of mentioned that this is consistent, even when no users are logged into Enterprise and no reports being viewed or running?

Sorry can’t say much why is it happening. As this doesn’t look like normal behavior please check patch level, OS level could be some incompatibility!

These process if they are not processing sit idle with a limited amount of memory. You can try your luck with SAP BO support

I am having the same problem on XIR3 SP2 even when no users are logged on. Did anyone ever find a solution to this issue?

There is a bug which causes wireportserver.exe to needlessly consume CPU cycles even under light load. The problem stems from a botched routine when cleaning up temp files. Basically, the process enters an infinite loop. It is fixed in SP3, fix pack ??? (I believe). I’ll try to find the ADAPT where I saw it listed.

The ADAPT doesn’t mention increased CMS cpu usage, but in my experience, killing/recycling the Webi process immediately drops the CMS to a regular level.

Found it. SAP ticket #1418267, ADAPT01299149. It is fixed in FP2.2.

Thanks for this, we are currently in the process of upgrading to Fix Pack 2.6 hopefully this will resolve the issue, I will keep you posted, thanks again.

Hello,

We just passed the SP3 on BOXI 3.1 and still have the same issue :

We have a clustered BOXI 3.1 deployement, 2 SIA on 2 physical servers with 1 CMS and 3 Webi Proc Server in each. Our servers are running on W2008 Server SP1.

Even when a few users are logged (less than 10 active sessions) CPU usage is still near 100% on each server.

Did someone encouter this issue and solve it ?

Thx

We are having same issues – installed 3.1 FP2.6 in April 2010 and the issue started occuring. The memory seems to be okay, it is just that (usually a single) WIReportServer.exe will consume up to 99% CPU and basically ‘hang’ there until I go into Windows Task Manager (when I can get into it) and do an ‘End Process’ – if not I have to Kill the SIA Service (which really ‘hurts my feelings’).

SAP advised us to add more ‘WebiProcessing Servers’ and we now have 3 on a Non-clustered, Windows environment. (We had to have so many because of a Publication issue that required bigger processing power).

And it looks like FP3 isn’t going to resolve the issue either! Hummm!

How prodigiously annoying!

I think we find something to solve this

Until last week we were having problems with user’s session timeout : session never closes and we were using the “killsession” app to force it (i think it’s not a very clean way of doing this, but it was the only i found !)

So last week, we sets the params explained by newatthistoo on this topic

It solves our user’s session timeout issues and also our hight CPU consummation.

CPU now never goes up to 40% on our two servers (quad core on each).
I now think there was a relation between our bad way of killing sessions and our hight CPU consummation.

hope this will help …

I have now upgraded to Fix Pack 2.6 and the problem seems to be resolved, thanks for all your help.

Just to give a tip on what is necessery to check on hight CPU usage with BOXI …

On our W2008 Server (Apache 2.1, Tomcat 5.5, BO XI 3.1 SP3) we put Trend Micro Officescan as antivirus, the only fact of unloading it have passed our Server average CPU usage from 60% to 5% in charge !

Think it’s because BO constantly create a lot of little cache files and the antivirus try to scan them all !!!
