Does anybody have a macro or add-in to duplicate variables within the same document?

No, but edit the variable, select the whole formula, CTRL+C to copy it, create new variable and CTRL+V to paste. That should work.

BO has one built right in.
Place your variable on a report, then click on a cell in that column. Then go to the menu bar and click on data, then click on define as variable from the drop down menu. Type in the new name for you copied variable and wala, you have a copy of the original.
This is also a good way to turn a formula into a variable using the same processs, then you can delete your formulas.
