Copying Group in CMC

Is there a way to copy the Group to a new Group in CMC? I looked at downloads and I didnt find any. I want to copy users who are in group (say 300 users) and put into a new group. Please help!!

Thanks,

CMS sdk is your only solution!

Please explain me in detail. Do I need to customize anything to achieve this?

There is no way to achieve this using CMC standard features!

But everything is possible using the CMS sdk … You can develop a script doing whatever you need…

Thanks for your reply! I havent done this so far. I will try to do this. :expressionless:

Why would you need to do this?

Just make your existing group a member of the new group and you’re done.

Or if you create a new group and are adding members to it, you can navigate to your old group and add the users that way. It’s pretty simple and it’s standard functionality.

The reason why am creating a new group is:
I have to implement restrictions at the Universe level. To do this, I have to create new user group for each Universe (one to one matrix). Currently, one group is member of multiple universe and its very cumbersome to implement restrictions…

I have more than 300 users whom I have to make them member of new group. Any help please

Thanks & Regards,
Nithya

But, I gave it to you. Create the new group. Add memobers to it and use your old group as the starting point.

You’d be done in 10 minutes.
There is no copy a a group fucntion.

Yes, I understand. Just wanted to know if its possible to copy as there are more than 300 users and I need to create more such groups like this. I dont think it will be done in 10 minutes :nonod:

What we do (and we’re trying to find a replacement for), is export the list of users from one group using security viewer, use the import wizard to import them into the new group, and then go into the CMC and remove all of the users from the old group.

We are trying to get away from Security Viewer though, does anyone have any recommendations?

Is Security Viewer part of BOE? I use Xi R2 and dont see Security Viewer.
Please help if I need to modify and install this?

Thanks,

Next time, please start another thread. Security Viewer is a not so userful add-on that you used to be able to get through tech support. I’d be surprised if you can still get it from therm.

Sorry Steve, I felt it was related as it was the same problem that the OP had.

Okay… I raised Support request to SAP and they said its not possible. And I asked them will this be available in latest release and they said “No”. I also saw couple of others looking for this… would be good if they provide this option…

As mentioned by other members, CMC SDK is a really good option. You can find examples in the BOB’s Downloads part of this forum to get you started.

Well, I think the CMC needs improvement, so one can easily create hundreds of users or copy groups, assign rights, etc… In small environments the CMC is OK, if you are talking about larger ones there is quite some usability missing, and pointing to SDK for an Enterprise application is just… poor IMHO

Try for example to add one hundered users to two groups. Have fun :?
