Connection Unavailable Error

Hi
When trying to refresh a document, I get an error:“A connection required to refresh this document is unavailable”. Interesting part is even if I try to create a new report the same error is displayed, when I query is run. There are no changes made to connection. However, I can view the table values in the universe.
Can anybody help me??
Thank you,
regards
Vivek

I can’t explain why your universe lost its conection to the database (maybe someone deleted the connection in Designer or Supervisor?), but you definitely need to restore it.

Open the universe in Designer, go to File -> Parameters and click the down arrow to the far right of “Connections”. Select the appropriate connection. If the drop-down list is empty, create a new connection.

I saw a number of reports of this but nothing recently. I get this error occassionally and cannot figure out why. And in this particular instance I can’t seem to get around it. ( am using 5.1 full client)

I created a report, exported it to the repository I was currently connected to, and then saved it for all users.

I logged into another repository and wanted to publish the document there when I received the error. The same universe, which the report uses, is in both repositories and is being automatically imported at login.

Any clues?

Thanks,
Melissa

Hi,
Once again export the universe to ‘another repository’ and import that universe.
Open your query panel and Run the report. That should work now.

Thanks
Ravi.

Within the repository there are various entities that are organised by the security domain )not necessarily stored in it though) they are Universes, Documents, domains and connections, each are uniquely identified by IDs (pertinent to that repository).

So when you swap a universe between repositories there may be an existing connection with the same name (in teh new repos) but you must ensure that it is associated to the particular one in the new repository by editing the parameters before export. By the same token the other entiries may not properly be similarly associated in the new repository as in the old i.e document query to universe
