connection or sql sentence error

I get the following error msg when I try to refresh a FC report…

Exception: DBD, ct_options(): user api layer: external error: This routine cannot be called because another command structure has results pending.State: ZZZZZ

we recently upgraded to 6.5

Did anybody see this before? Any insight and suggestions are appreciated…

thanks in advance,

What is the database you are using? Is it happening to every report? Can you create new reports using the same universe??

hello dd,

thanks for ur response…

we are using Sybase… I tried creating reports from the universe but wasnt successful…actually the universe this FC reports are built on, is the default metric universe that comes with AF ( now I get a new error, Exception: CS, Unexpected behavior when I try to refresh)…

and when I try to build a report on the system universe( the base universe that has the (date) self join and from which the metrics in the metric universe are calculated), I get the message universe not found…

these are working fine yday…

thanks
esther

Esther,

Did you ever find a solution to this problem? I’m getting the exact same error message when I try to run a report from ZABO going against a Sybase Universe.

Thanks,

Tommy

Hi, I am getting exact same error as you are …

Exception: DBD, ct_options(): user api layer: external error: This routine cannot be called because another command structure has results pending.State: ZZZZZ

… either when trying to refresh data in ZABO report or when trying to create a new report with ZABO.

I am running following environment:

BO Server/Repository:

OS: Sun Solaris 9
DB Client: Sybase Open Client 12.5.1
DB Server: Sybase ASE 12.5.1
BO Server components: 6.5.1

Corporate Datawarehouse:

OS: Sun Solaris 9
DB Server: Sybase ASE 12.5.1

Client Applications:

OS: Windows XP SP1
Browser: MS IExplorer 6.0.2800
Infoview: 6.5.1
ZABO: 6.5.1

Did you find a resolution to this issue ?

Thanks in advance

Quincy.

Has anyone found a solution to this? I have a client who is getting this error now.

We recently upgrade to 6.5.1 and found the same problem with ZABO running against Sybase 12.5. After working with BO support for several weeks they finally got back to me and informed me it’s a known bug in 6.5.1.

Supposedly, version 6.5.2, which is currently in beta test will have this fixed. In the meantime, BO has a fix called HotFix 614 to resolve this problem in 6.5.1. However, it comes with a pretty nasty warning. Does anyone know if this is a standard warning for hotfixes? Currently, I’m working on setting up a test repository so I can test it as I do not want to risk testing it against our production repository. Here’s the warning:

Please read the ReadMe carefully before proceeding. Especially the HotFix policy and the Installation instructions. Please keep in mind that since this is a pre-release patch there is a possibility of regression issues or other errors as stated in Hot Fix policy: “Customers that accept a Hot Fix must be made aware of the risk of regression or other errors may be present in the Hot Fix. This correction is made available as a patch in test, in which you, the Customer, must validate …” Because of this it is highly recommended to test the Hot Fix in a test environment separate from your production environment.

In addition to the above warning, it would be important to note the certified connectivity configurations (database/middleware) as the HotFix would have been created to work in one of these configurations… Sybase Adaptive Server Enterprise 12.5 with Sybase Open Client 12.5. Or Sybase Adaptive Server IQ 12.5 with Sybase ODBC for Adaptive Server IQ 12.5

Hi,

HotFix 614 does indeed correct this problem i.e. I am not getting the “Connection or SQL sentence error - Another command structure has results pending” exception anymore when trying to refresh a ZABO 6.5.1 report which has multiple data providers.

The problem is coming from Syabse Open Client / ASE 12.X which, according to documentation, handles transactions (coming from a same connection) in sychronous and single thread mode and thus is unable to process a new transaction if it hasn’t completely finished processing the current one. This is apparently what ZABO was initially trying to do in multi data provider reports i.e. send several transactions to the datawarhouse at once.

Hope this helps.

dflood and/or Quincy – do you know whether this bug exists for ZABO with any WebI server with Sybase 12.5, or just for WebI Unix servers?

Anita,

Our web server is running Windows 2000.

Good stuff! Thanks for your support. :yesnod:

We are getting the following error when running/creating a report in 3-tier(ZABO) from a Universe based on the Sybase database. The middleware on the server is Sybase v12.5. We do not see any issues when running the report via BCA or by using the full-client BOMAIN key.

Connection or SQL sentence error (DA0005) : Exception: CS, unexpected behavior

We are currently on 6.5.1 and will be upgrading to 6.5.2 shortly.

Will let you know if the 6.5.2 resolves the issue.

Thanks,
PG

In addition to my previous post, we are also experiencing another error with this multiple data provider report going against the Sybase database using 3-tier.

Internal memory error during SQL generation (QP0002)

Thanks,
PG

gulpal, other people have reported problems with 6.5.x and Sybase. We’re currently on Sybase, and have no immediate plans to upgrade due to this sort of show-stopper bugs.

Thanks Anita for your input!

After installing 6.5.2, we are noticing a different error message
Connection or SQL sentence error - Another command structure has results pending followed by some funky message.

But one thing i noticed in the 6.5.2 SP release notes is that it did not have the HF 614 which was mentioned in one of the previous posts. I will check with BO tech support and see if we can get this HF 614 to resolve the issue.

Will keep you posted!

Thanks,
PG

we have applied Hotfix 614 to resolve it ,but still the error exists.
we have the case open for about 2 months no luck.
Any suggestions or help is appriciated.

Hi,
I’m running into the same problem, and hotfix 614 indeed didnot resolve the issue,
is there some kind of steps i need to follow,
while installing HF 614 found that it does not replace all the files it was supposed to replace,so i mannualy deleted csnxrv.dll and dbd_ctlib files and applied HF 614 ,then the sybase reports start running fine,
We have BO 65 with service pack 6.5.2 instaaled on our servers and sybase 12.0 open client, have a case opened with business objects from past 4 months now, this is the final solution and they r not promising to follow the above steps, donno what to do…stuck up with this issue for a long time,
Thanks for your help in advane,
Charismatic

For all of you who are also getting this I have a question or two?

  1. Does anyone know if this “bug” is limited to Sybase ASE Open Client connections or includes Sybase ASE ODBC connections as well?
  2. If limited only to Sybase ASE Open Client connections, has anyone tried using Sybase ASE ODBC driver rather than OpenClient driver as a workaround.

I am also getting the date prompt error message which may have been sorted as I am still testing the solutions.

This seems to indicate that Sybase ASE OpenClient and BusObj have a real problem working together…It is very frustrating seeing all these posts and no answer that solves all of them…maybe the rest of us are missing a step…who knows.

Any thoughts?
