We are currently considering purchasing concurrent Business Objects user licenses and would be interested in finding out the following:
For those of you who are using the client and/or WebIntelligence product with concurrent users - what ratio of # licenses/# users did you use? Did you factor in that there are “heavy”, “average” and “occasional” users? Are your concurrent users granted access on a named basis or a generic logon id?
Once you purchased concurrent licenses, have you monitored actual usage? If so, what software are you using? Are you able to identify the users accessing Business Objects, the frequency of usage by each user, and the level of concurrent usage? Has your estimate on # licenses/# users proven to be accurate based on actual usage?
Finally, has anyone purchased a site license. If so, how many users do you support?

This is interesting as we have been told that BusObj are no longer doing concurrent licencing.
what ratio of # licenses/# users did you use?
Their old ratios were 1:5 and the price was 5 times as much as a named licence.

The difficulty of doing this is the main reason that Bus Obj have stated that they don’t do concurrent licencing anymore. Personally, I believe that there are ways of monitoring usage and provided you can prove it to them then there shouldn’t be so much of an issue. Having huge numbers of ‘named’ licences is completely inpractical and unrealistic.
Finally, has anyone purchased a site license. If so, how
many users do you support
Supposedly they won’t do site licences either. You need to tell them a number and then they’ll sort out a price for that number. I’ve asked on numerous occaisons about possibilities of site/corporate licencing and got a pretty negative answer. As far as I know, Bus Obj would be about the only software company that wouldn’t be interested in this sort of arrangement (especially for the World’s biggest pharmaceutical company).
Can you please let me know whether you have actually discussed concurrent licencing with BusObj and confirmation that they will provide them to you. As we are looking to sign a large deal in the next few days, a very rapid answer would be much appreciated.
If anyone else is currently purchasing concurrent licences then I would also like to know.
Are things any different in the US?
Thanks in advance.
