BO is excellent in resolving loop in the data model. You can use contextes and aliases to avoid wrong results caused by unresolved loops. These traps are called “chasm” and “fan” trap by BO.
Does anyone know where the term “chasm” and “fan” traps original came from? Is there any related work (papers) available?

Hi Peter:
I do know that BO have papers on this subject. There is the “How” and the “Why” of contexts/aliases/chasm traps etc… I have a white paper on it from BO. Since it is copyrighted material, I would suggest that you contact your salesrep and get a copy directly from BO.
There is also some discussion on it in the new Designer course manual from Business Objects. The paper I am talking about is from BusinessObjects UK. It does a great job of explaining the basic philosophy behind the whole concept.

Chander
