I am unable to see TOOLS (Design/Data Access) option when open WebI report to change universe from BI Launchpad. However the same TOOLS option (under Data Access) is available from Rich Client. Please let me what could be the reason so can be rectified.
In BI Launch Pad, in Design Mode under Data Access tab I am not able to find Tool Tab from where I could change the data source, but the Tool option is available if I am logging through WebI Rich Client.
Even in BI Launch Pad if I go to query properties, the Universe seems to be dim, so could not change the data source from there as well.
You guys need to make sure that you are opening the report in Modify mode that launches Java Panel. To do that, follow the below steps:
In BI Launch Pad, go to Preferences -> Web Intelligence -> under Modify (creating, editing and analyzing documents), check the radio button for Rich Internet Application (download required)
Click Save and Close on the bottom right
You’ll be asked to reload the webpage, so refresh the webpage
Navigate to folder of the report whose data source needs to be changed, Right Click on that report -> select Modify
How to enable the Data Access -> ‘Tools’ feature in BI launchpad ?
The above settings will enable it in Rich Client only not in HTML mode. But i am pretty much sure it can be done in HTML mode as well. Not sure how to do it in CMC.
You can change it in WEBI 4.1. first select the webi report and select the modify option and when the report is open go to the top right handside of the report. there you have 3 options. Design, modify and view. If you select the third one and you can change the universe for that report.
the three options in the WEBI 4.1 report are Design, modify and data. You can select the data and click change the universe, there you will get one window and select the universe you want to change
Hmmm 2 attempts from you and I bet the OP is none the wiser .
How about, when using Java Panel in 4.1:-
The three options in the WEBI 4.1 report are Reading, Design and Data. Select Data Button Select data provider from List Right Click Context Menu, select change source. Follow instractions in Wizard.
Please note for larger documents, you may have to set the workstation Java Heap sizes accordingly in the control panel.
YMMV, but I have only really had this working without error in 4.1 SP3+
We have been using the HTML report viewer, so the Data Acess>Tools option isn’t available to change the data source. When I switch to the Java viewer it becomes visible on reports created after the change. However, it is not visible on reports created under the HTML viewer, even after the change to the Java Applet version was done.
Are you saying that you change the universe source under Java and when the HTML viewer is used to view that same report, its still pointing at the old universe?
Please provide all versions and SPs you are running, BO, Java etc
Yet another thing that used to work in the old but not in the NEW!
What is it about SAP that proves they have no clue how to release software without losing original settings!?
I too am facing this and as mentioned, I did see this in the old version. Ridiculous if you ask me; or they need to bring the development back here again and as it should be instead of offshore which always has impact on quality
That’s right, just like you buy yourself a newly constructed home. Its not up to the builder or state to inspect the building.
Its up to the owner to go in there… if the place doesn’t colapse on them then the home is good; at least for a little while until other bugs are worked out… Plumbing, Eliectric,
You’re correct; used to be much easier but that said and aside from SDK or other avenues you can do this via Rich Client(Simple as long as SAP keeps it around).
Open the report in Edit Mode; you will see a few tabs available. There is one there for changing data source. I forgot the name but its straightforward on finding it.
One thing to note: You may get errors(as I did). If so try to run the report with the new universe a couple times then save it.
When you go into Webi and open it the report should be fine with the newly pointed Universe.
