Cannot get BCA Admin to Launch

Hello Listers. I am in need of your assistance. First, let me state that I am way back in the 5.0/BCA game. We just started our migration due to Y2K freezes. I am having lots of troubles with BCA. Although I have read all the guides, books, release notes, etc., I must have missed something terribly important…

The facts:
I’ve setup BroadcastAgent alone, on an NT machine. Apparently, the installation was successful. But’s that’s about all the good news… I am unable to start the BAgent, I am unable to launch the Administrator. When I try to perform these startups, nothing happens. When I try to launch the Admin., I see a DOS window in which a message appears stating “Admin Tool launched with current Admin Language and current OSAGENT_PORT”. Nothing at all happens after this. I have not been able to actually pull up the Admin GUI at all. Please advise - What am I missing here? Should I just try a re-install here?

Thanks in advance,
Neal Messier

I never got that to come up, but my BCA works…

Can you launch the console? Does it show up as ‘online’ when you attempt to send / schedule reports?

Have you seen that box show up in your cluster, thru adminstrator on the cluster manager? I think you can ‘monitor’ the agent from there…

Good luck, report back what you find - I am about 2 weeks behind moving my boxes around, any input you have would be greatly appreciated!

Neal,
I had a similar Problem during installation of Broadcast Agent and WebI. I found that not all Variables are entered in the NT System Environment. Give this a try.
Go to the Control Panel.
Open the system icon.
Go to the Environment tab.
Make sure that the following variables are entered correctly.

BusinessObjectsPath C:\Program Files\BusinessObjects\Business Objects 5.0 ORBELLINE C:\Program Files\Server\WebIntelligence 2.5 OSAGENTPORT 14900 (This should be the value you set during installation) WI C:\Program Files\Server\WebIntelligence 2.5 WIJDK C:\Program Files\Server\WebIntelligence 2.5\jdk\bin WIORBB C:\Program Files\Server\WebIntelligence 2.5\orb\bin WISTORAGE C:\Program Files\Server\WebIntelligence 2.5\storage WISYS C:\Program Files\Server\WebIntelligence 2.5\system\bin

In the path variable make sure the following entries have been made %BusinessObjectsPath%;%WI%;%WIJDK%;%WIORBB%;%WISYS%;%WISTORAGE%;%WIWEBI%

Neal,

Have you checked to make sure the necessary processes are running on the server? What processes do you see running in the NT task manager? I would start there.
