Cannot change warn if cost estimate box yet using oracle 10g

Hi there

We are finding the warn if cost estimate box is greyed out and cannot change - we are using BOXI R2 SP3 and have used this feature in version 5 previously on the same databases - oracle 01g which use cost-based optimsation.

Any idea why this is the case and if can switch on somehow - logged in as administrator.

Many Thanks :?

Same problem here, but with oracle 9 client.
After the migration of the universe from 6.1.3 to XI 3.1, this happens.

Anyone has knowledge about this?

Thank you

Does this box remain greyed out if you create a new Oracle connection?

Created a connection. The same happens.

Are you sure that there is not a universe parameter you can change for this, either, within the Universe itself, or via the relevant prm file?

If it is, I can’t find it. Where is the PRM located. I don’t have access on the server machine.

Gratzy,

These are in the data access folder, on the server. When you test the connection, in Designer, show details will give you the full path.
There used to be prm files on client machines also, but this may have died a death in the XI world, where you connect via the server.

Cheers,

Mark.

I’m going through this exercise right now as well. I do have access to the server and have made the necessary changes to the PRM, SBO and CS.CFG files (on the server) AND enabled the connection server. I found that on my client machine, these setting changes at the server had no effect but when I logged onto the server and fired up Designer there, I could manipulate the setting.

We use Oracle 10g and XI 3.1 SP2. I bet if you tweaked your local file settings, your local installation of Designer would accept those changes but I’ve not validated that yet.

Here is a good reference document provided by SAP: http://help.sap.com/businessobject/product_guides/boexir31/en/xi3-1_data_access_guide_en.pdf

Kind regards,

Keith

UPDATE

I pulled this from the SAP site:

Symptom

Warn if cost estimate exceeds option is grayed out in Designer

Reproducing the Issue
Import a universe in Designer.
Click Parameters from File menu.
Click Controls tab.
Find Warn if cost estimate exceeds option.

BusinessObjects Enterprise XI Release 2
BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 3.0
BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 3.1

Cause
This is by design. Warn if cost estimate exceeds function was available in BusinessObjects 5.x, but it’s no longer supported in the current versions.
