Out of curiosity, would like to check with you, why can’t we use Windows XP as a server? As of now, we are using Windows server 2000 for my reporting application.
I know that windows XP designed in such a way which cannot perform the server related things. For that we have to go for server ike millenim,NT, windows 2000, etc.
But wanted to know why we can’t use Windows XP? If we deploy the infoview, ORB,wiadmin, etc… will it work out?
There are different versions of Windows XP. You can install BO 6.5 on Windows XP Server, but not on Windows XP Home or Windows XP Pro. Version 6.5 will only install on a server.
BOE XI will install on any machine that has a supported platform, regardless of whether or not it’s a server.
Yes, even I never heard of Windows XP server…but windows XP Pro comes with microsoft web server, Internet information server. But this server is not installed by default we need to install it manually.
To recap. There are those that have installed (at least some of) the server components on Windows XP and are using them successfully. That platform is not supported, so if you have any problems whatsoever you will have to reproduce the issue on a true server operating system. For such a “sandbox” environment, most folks will use a virtualization tool like Microsoft Virtual PC or VMWare. That way you are still only using desktop / laptop hardware, but are using a true server operating system for your BusObj server environment.
