can i make universe using sybase while total BO is in Oracle

Hi All,
Is it okay to build a universe based on Sybase database while my total BO repository is in Oracle.

Thanks for your opinions.

Yes

The repository is just a place to store things. It has nothing to do with the target for your universes.

Hi,
Thank you very much Dave. I will suggest to my team lead, why don’t we use Syabase as target.
Whats happening so far in application, one i am going to create universe on, they are dumping the data in Sybase to Oracle for BO purpose. But according to my analysis , we are missing some data in Oracle corresponding to Syabase. If there is no problem with the Syabse, it will be better to proceed with Sybase. Am i right?

So before preoceeding with Sybase as my target datasource, is there any steps or requirements i have to follow? ( i have created so many universes using Oracle. Is there any difference between Syabse and Oracle while starting the universe build)

Any documents supporting Syabse based universe or Syabase database would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you very much all

Universe design “best practices” don’t change when you change databases. What changes is the list of functions that you have available. If you don’t know Sybase you might want to look for (at the very least) a document that details the various functions that are available. I have found (via google) web sites that show comparisons or even function maps from one database vendor to another, so that’s another source of information.

Hi Dave,
Thank you so much for your response. Now i am confident to go with Sybase.

Please, If it is possible to give some links comparing Oracle and Sybase, i will appreciate it. Otherwise leave it.

I am so grateful for your input.

Here is what Dave said:

Sybase is very similar to SQL Server in terms of the functions available - cast, getdate(), etc.

This link is probably a good start.

Thanks Dave and Mark
