Can Bo v5 merge designer changes in parallel development?

If I have a baseline universe (“Baseline”) and then two separate projects run concurrently (Project X and Project Y, both making changes to baseline) is it possible to then converge the two when it comes to releasing them?

In my scenario Project X will be released with “Baseline + Project X changes” in February, but then Project Y will need to go live in March and I would like to merge “Project Y” changes into “Baseline + Project X changes”

Can tthis be done in v5?

*. I have convinced the client to migrate to XIR3 but currently we still have v5 unfortunately

Hi,

As far as I know this was not possible in BO 5.x, 6.x not even in BO XI r2.

There was an option in BO 5 and 6 to export a universe incrementally but that worked in a different way than what you need. You need a merge of 2 different universe versions. What the incremental export did was that it exported only changes made to a universe since the last export.

Not possible: not in ver 5.x, not in ver 6.x, not in ver XI R2 nor XI R3.x

Hi Andreas - thanks for that, although not the answer we wanted  OBIEE and SAP handle this well - I am surprised SAP didn’t incorporate this “release management” functionality into XIR3. Never mind!

I’m not surprised. I’d like to think that they will be throwing their efforts behind justifying ditching Desktop Intelligence, i.e. migrating remaining functionality (folds, hiding objects in pivots, etc.) to reduce the number of key programs that they need to support first. Then they can push on with developing the new platform.
