Business Query advice please

This is to ask for advice with Business Query.

All we are trying to do is install it on a Windows 95 PC with Excel 7 installed. Business Query seems to install happily and the Add In appears to work because we get the Business Query menu appearing in Excel.

BUT when we try the LOAD command from the Excel Business Query menu we get the following error message:
Missing or corrupted Component
try to run the installation kit again. If the problem persists please contact your vendor Debug information description kagtuser.dll module name kagtuser.dll

Have searched for kagtuser.dll and find it in c:\Program Files\Business Objects

Have reinstalled Business Query several times.
Have also reinstalled Excel in case there was something wrong there but same problem still

The manual just says reinstall.
Have run out of ideas so would appreciate some advice.
What is this kagtuser.dll file?

Thanks
Anne

I haven’t tried this, but you should make sure c:\Program Files\Business Objects is in your PATH. (To check, goto a DOS prompt and type “PATH” without the quotes. You will see a list of directories that should include Business Objects.) If the Business Obects directory is not showing, Excel will not be able to reference the Business Ovbjects dll’s and you would get an error like the one below…

Anne, this problem is luckily documented on the BusinessObjects Tech Support web site (http://www.techsupport.businessobjects.com/). You need to sign up and get a userid and password, but if BusObj adds a frequently-asked question / problem to their knowledge base, then you can solve your problem by just querying the Knowledge Base. I queried it by searching on “kagtuser”, and here’s the ticket that fit your question:

Resolution Entry 244

Date Entered 08-JUL-1998
Product Release BusinessQuery 4.1
Problem Problem with KAGTUSER.DLL when logging in
to BusinessQuery.
Resolution
****SYMPTOMS
When logging in to BusinessQuery, the following error message is returned:

"A component is missing or corrupted.
Try to run the installation kit again.
If the problem persists, please contact your vendor.

Debug information:
Description: kagtuser.dll
Module: kagtuser.dll"

CAUSE****
This error message occurs when Excel cannot find this .DLL in the PATH.

****RESOLUTION
The .DLL is stored in the BusinessObjects root directory. Update the PATH to include this:
-SET PATH = “%PATH%; C:\Program Files\BusinessObjects”

Thanks so much Anita and Andrew !!
Everything works fine now

Particularly appreciate the fact that I am in Perth, Western Australia and posted the message for help before I went home last night and then arrived at work this morning to read two replies from the UK and USA fixing my problem.
