Business Objects - Older version wanted

Hi,

can anybody provide me with information where to get (legally via buying!) a license code for an older Version of Business Objects, preferrably 5.0?

I started working for a new company where I would like to introduce Business Objects as business intelligence solution, and I need an old version to show the basic capacities and how easy it can be used to merge information from e.g. several Excel files - but I can not download and install the complete edge trial version of several gigabyte size, not to speak of being not familiar with the complete installation, having been a DeskI power-user.

It would be great if anybody can help me.

Rgds
Kai

I very much doubt you would be able to get such an old version, legally, anywhere.

You should have a look at downloading Edge. The install is surprisingly easy, if you do a little reading.

That´s the version I first had a look to on the homepage, but I guess the IT department would not be too happy if I download the huge pack for testing and presentation purposes, leaving the “how to” aspect aside and that I might need assistance from them

A “used” key for a reasonable price (if that´s legal?) would be fine, too, I guess.

As I said not legally available.
The two options are the one already stated, or inviting SAP in to give a demo.

Ask SAP Sales or an offical partner for a demo presentation.
IMHO it would be totally USELESS to demo a totally outdated version anyway…

Or look at SAP Lumira, which is available as a trial version/limited personal edition client tool with SAP Lumira Cloud.

Not useless if you just need to show Excel integration without wanting to install the huge complete package, because it fits into an actually running project.

Concerning Lumira, I´ll have a look.

Completely useless. You started at a new company and you want to show software that is years old? Good luck.

Why don’t you download the latest client tools and run them standalone?

Or maybe use Excel with PowerPivot to demo some reporting …

Because I do not know PowerPivot and Business Objects is already on topic whether to buy or not buy some licenses, on the other hand.
And new company knows we are talking about an older version concerning the Excel topic and expicitly expressed interest in seeing that function anyway. Short termed. And without bringing the IT department into that topic for sake of installation of a later version, which I am most probably not proficient with, too, as the last company also did not have the latest version in use.

I have thought about the topic thoroughly and checked the possibilities it with all participants, and that´s why I asked for an older version, so please, let´s not have a debate on the principles here and just agree on “You won´t get an old version shorthanded”.

Thus, the thread may be closed, I guess.
