Business Objects Enterprise 6.0 (Download and set-up)

Hi!

I’m an external employee working for a client who uses Business Objects Enterprise 6.0.

The issue is, I cannot find the Business Objects Enterprise 6.0 installer anywhere (since its a 2004-2005 version, it’s not listed on SAP’s download center).
Also, I’ve tried establishing the connection to the Business Objects Universes through SAP Lumira, but it is not working (error says “please specify the correct host”), and I don’t know whether the issue is that I’ve been given the wrong host information or whether SAP Lumira is not compatible with 6.0

To sum up:

  1. Where can I download BO 6.0?
  2. Is SAP Lumira compatible with BO 6.0?
  3. Any other way to access data accessed through BO 6.0?

  1. I think your only option is to contact SAP directly; but I’m not sure if even they will be able to provide it to you.
  2. No, the current platform is completely different from 6.x
  3. The obvious answer would be to upgrade to BI4 and convert the universes to unx, but other than that I think your only option would be to extract SQL from 6.x-based reports and use it as the source in Lumira.

Wait, so is Business Objects 6.0 newer or older than Business Objects 4.2? (Just kidding!).

SAP purchased Business Objects in 2007 so they probably don’t have the software available anywhere and haven’t support it in over 10 years. Someone probably has the software on their hard drive somewhere but you’ll have a hard time finding it.

I think you may have to upgrade to 6.5 before you can upgrade to 4.x

The only way to download legacy versions from SAP BI \ BO is to make a special software access request to SAP. However they only do this for 2 versions back, so not BO 6, which is at least 4 versions back.

Over the last few years I`ve had the requirements for old versions which has required;

  • Finding a SAP presales guy who is a friend to find an old USB hard drive in his attic with Data Integrator 11.5 on it.
  • One time we needed BO 5.0 and managed to find it on floppy disk (I think it was floppy disk) in an old filing cabinet.
  • Searching old hard drives.

What Im trying to say there is, is you have little hope of finding BO6.0 unless you can find someone who has it in some archive somewhere! Even then you wouldnt be able to get keys to install anyway.

6.0 wasn’t a popular release either.

6.1.a and 6.1.b were awful.
The next version was 6.5.1, which proved popular and stable.

The install media for that should be findable somewhere (it came on 3 CDs).

I didn’t think 6.0 was actually a GA release…

Our reseller didn’t even mention 6.1.3, just said that BO had 6.5 out on extensive beta with selected customers and to wait for the 6.5.1 that would be issued with that. I personally went straight from 5.1.6 to 6.5.1, which was great because I missed the rubbish in between.

We were starting our first major dashboard project just as 6.1a came out, so we had to start with that version. It was a nightmare.
