I have been instructed to install the Vmware software on my laptop so that we can give a demo to a client about capabilities of Web Intelligence, Dashboard Manager and Universe. I had the following questions:
Are there any sample universes that come with this software that I can use to demo Web Intelligence. What about the underlying database and setting up demo data etc.
Can I setup Analytics and Dashboard Manager for the demo also.
What are the quick ways to demo Xcelsius ?
The client is an SAP shop. They are very interested in using BOBJ Webi, Dashboard Manager and also Xcelsius but I dont have much time to get this setup.
I will really appreciate all the help of the experts over here.

Business Objects come with two sample universe (Efashion and Beach).you can find the sample universe at this location(C:\Program Files\Business Objects\BusinessObjects Enterprise 11.5\Samples\en\Universes).
2.You have open these universes and then create the necessary connection and export it to the repository, then you can create some reports using WEBI.
It’s very easy to demo Xcelsius as you can just tap data into the Excel model yourself.
You can make some flash-looking (excuse the pun) analytics in an hour if you have a look through the help files, the basics of it are very straightforward.
As previously stated the answer is Yes. If you are looking for the specifics of installing the software, configuring it and creating demo material, General Discussion is not the forum to use. Incidentally, if you are having to ask these questions I would be a little worried that you may not actually have the skills to do the task asked of you. Bottom line, yes it can be done.
No I dont need installation instruction. I have everything setup on Tomcat within the Vmware…What I was asking was for some demo dashboards which might be reading data from existing sample metrics or universes. Kinda similar to the Efashion universe which goes against an Access database and data is already there.
I have searched the package and dont see any sample Dashboard. I sure can build one but I needed something quicker with a good look and feel…
Dashboard Manager is not part of the Business Objects core products. It is an add-on. Integration is usually the biggest headache with add-ons. Therefore, there is no pre-built dashboard using the sample universe. If you have built dashboard before, it should be very easy for you to build one yourself using eFashion.
Are you familiar with the Total Electronics demo that has been part of Performance Management all the way back to version 6.x (perhaps even back to version 3.x)?
Also, if you work for a Business Objects Partner company there is a demo system available that will allow you to demo the entire product line from Data Integrator to Reporting and Ad-hoc Analysis, to Dashboards and Scorecards. You will need to check with your Partner Manager for access to that system. It will also require that you demonstrate to Business Objects that you are proficient with both the software and the demo system so you can be validated by Business Objects to do product demos. Your Partner Manager can also arrange for that validaton.

I got one built over the weekend. But it is not perfect… I have a speedometer, IMT and couple of webis in the main dashboard. I also have a mock drill into a webi report for demo…This is using Efashion universe…
Still looking a for a good mock one which would be preferred…
Maybe you didn’t choose to install the demos when you installed performance manager, maybe try running the install again to choose that as an addition?
The problem is that I did not do the install. I got it as a VMware software from a colleague at work…So there are no executables. Looks like I will just need to build a custom sample on my own.
It’s quite interesting reading this topic. It started on Thursday last week. So it’s been more than 3 days. It’s quite enough time to build your nice-looking demo/dashboard, right?
Sometimes it takes much less time to do something than to ask for it and then just wait…
Demo was for today afternoon. Just got done and went quite well… Most probly the client will go with BOBJ but not completely certain yet… But I am still working on making the dashboard a lot better for future demos.
We also need a more hands on demo in next phase to query SAP data to fully convince the client to use BOBJ. So we are almost there.
You have no Performance Management folder under your Business Objects installation folder? When Performance Management gets installed that is where it goes.
