Hello,
We have a BOE server, which runs WebI reports through Infoview. Weve identified a potential need to run Crystal Reports in order to burst out reports via PDF.
Other than purchasing CR 2008, would anyone out there know if there are further licensing implications for servers on the BOE server (CR Job Server, for example)
Thanks

Depending on how your users are using the reports, you might need Crystal Viewer. Anyway, for licensing question, you really should consult your account manager or sales rep. It is because licensing is very complex and it varies from company to company.

Thanks for the reply.
The primary reason for Crystal would be sending out reports via PDFs attached to emails, and so the users wouldn’t necessarily be viewing the reports directly at all. If we were to write other reports then they’d be accessed by the same Infoview portal as they can currently access WebI reports.
So the question would be if we would need any extra licensing for using the job servers on our existing BOE server, although I appreciate that this is complicated.
Has anyone come across the same situation?

As stated before, best to talk to your Rep in great detail, get everything from SAP-BOBJ in writing - and watch for the fine print.
There’s a lot of cryptic stuff in the BOBJ Licenses…and it is always in-flux.
First, to run more than one CONTENT type - you need to have a PREMIUM License for BOE (not PROFESSIONAL which is limited to one (1) CONTENT TYPE).
If you are looking to send PDFs of Crystal Reports via e-mail you may be forced to CPU licenses rather than NAMED…
Licensing
I have a question:
If you are using a NUL (named user license) model and are exporting out PDF, HTML, XLS, or CSV files, please stay standing - the rest of you can sit down.
Ok, and of those still standing, if you are distributing those exported files to users, have you purchased a license for those users? even though those users are not BO users (and why would they need to be simply to receive a PDF file?!) … anyone?
Well, according to SAP/BO they want to charge us for this. Here’s an extrac…
…and going to CPU can introduce all sorts of SOCKET/CORE issues - and/or VM-Ware issues that need to be clearly agreed to before you sign anything.
The threads below are well worth a read (then perhaps a large scotch afterwards)…
CPU License and VMWare
My company has a single CPU license for Business Objects Professional XI. We purchased and setup the server in 2007. We put the application on a server with VMWare. The physical server has 2 quad core processors but within VMWare we only dedicated one processor to the installation containing Business Objects.
We are being audited by SAP and now they want us to purchase the licences for the 2 processor quad core installation even though we only gave the application 1 processor via vmware. I …
License for BO XI on VMware
My VMWare host is running a Xenon processor (Quad Core). The VM machine with windows 2003 sees it as only 1 cpu and single core rather than a quad core. Do we know if by Business Objects licensing models for VMware deployments, we will be violating the agreement. Assuming we are licensed for a 2 cpu deployment. (dual core uses 1.5 licenses per Business Objects)

BO Licensing
I’ve been a lurker for some time in this forum, doing my research about BusinessObjects Enterprise (for future company use).
Hypothetically, a client has:
4 BOE Professional CPU license
50 Web Intelligence license
10 Desk Intelligence license
And the client wants us to make use of this.
What I could deduce from statements around the internet about BOE:
Professional license only allows 1 content type to be delivered.
A CPU license allows as many logins as the hardware could handle.
1 CPU …
[XI 3.1] Tricky BO Licensing on Windows
Ok, so we have an 8 CPU on our Windows 2008 server but only have 5 CPU licenses. I have heard of a way where we can still keep the 8 CPU server intact and simply allocate the 5 CPU license to 5 of the 8 CPU’s. Does anyone know how to go about doing this?
Thanks in advance!

Hello,
We have been running XIR2 for a couple of years now and it appears we have just been ‘audited’ by SAP. According to them, we are out of compliance in our licensing. Here is the situation:
We have a 500 named user ‘basic’ key, a 5-user ‘upgrade’ key (from Basic to Professional) and another 5-user 'upgrade key (from Professional to Premium.) What happens, though, is that having the uprade keys on the same server as the 500 basic keys will upgrade ALL of the basic users to Premium.

BO Edge CAL vs. Named User Licensing
I have a very basic question for BO Edge Series. Let’s say if a company goes for BOE Edge 5 CAL licenses, how many number of users can be created in CMC.
If it is 5, what is the difference between 5 Named users and 5-CAL?

Thanks very much for your detailed reply. I’ll go through the threads with a bottle to hand if need be.
