Bob job description

Odd question, but would anyone mind sharing their job description? I’m trying to justify my existence and would be interested in how other people view their jobs and how they’ve worded things on CVs or internal job descriptions.

Words - are you a “Business Objects Developer”, a “Software Developer”, an “Application Developer”, a “Business Intelligence Developer” etc

I’m a universe designer, 3rd-line support/report writer (users try, then go to our Bob admin and it comes to me if they are still stuck). I also do Xcelsius development now too.

Thanks

Debbie

Maybe you can use Google to see how many entries correspond to each job description …

So what do you actually do? What’s on your job description?

I’m going to do some net research too - but you guys are my first and most important resource!

It’s hard trying to put techy stuff into words that the HR people can understand.

Thanks

Debbie

Well, if you’re directly involved with end-users or those who rely on your skills to implement quality reporting solutions, then hopefully this is just an HR checklist item.

In any case, I’d do two things:

  • maintain a sense of urgency
  • indicate actual people and departments as the directconsumers of your services

For example, if you provide a set of canned reports each week for the sales team, instead of writing:

: “Manage delivery of Weekly sales report”

you may word it is:

: “Provide Sales teams with weekly forecasting and pipeline data”

If there are ANY expectations of off-hour or weekend assistance - or being “on call” I would stress this as well, eg:

: “Provide xyz groups/teams emergency/critical on-call support” etc

As others said, searching job desc. on the various websites should turn up some good results.

Hope this helps
