If you are familiar with the opendocument function then apply that concept to Andreas’ post and maybe that will ring a bell. I can’t provide you with a live example, due to intranet access only, but here is our scenario:
Folks on a corporate web portal can navigate that portals “folder” system, where I have populated one of the folder entries with a hyperlink that goes into my BOE (includes the opendocument function) to kick off a report, the results of the report (infoview) populates an open “window” area of the requestor that is managed by the corporate web portal that he or she is logged into. The user didn’t need to pass a userid/password to my BOE because a script we wrote handles that detail and then runs opendocument to handle the rest of the details. The user gets his or her report, I’m happy because this read-only consumer doesn’t need a BOE account, and the corporate guys are happy because they’ve hit pay dirt.
This is just one example, all bundled under “Web Services” or to use the other buzz word SOA.
