BO XI R2 SP2 --> What's in it?

Hey folks,

Can anyone provide insights into what features/enhancements are provided in SP2 from a WEBI and / or Performance Manager standpoint?

Thanks!

The “preview” readme file was over 100 pages long. It lists a lot of defects that were corrected. When the service pack is available via ESD I believe that you can download the final readme and see everything that was fixed or enhanced.

Is the preview readme available somewhere? I’ve been told that SP2 and Productivity Pack have been officially released and should be on the ESD site this week but no sign yet. I’m vexed that BO didn’t see fit to include either of these in their Beta programme.

XIR2 SP2 now available for download @ ESD.

OK. Looking at the Service Pack 2 page for Windows on the ESD site I see the following:

  1. Getting Started Guide - Please Read Before Starting Installation

  2. Readme

  3. BusinessObjects Enterprise XI R2 - WIN - INTL - 1/2

  4. BusinessObjects Enterprise XI R2 SP2 - WIN - INTL - 2/2

  5. BusinessObjects Enterprise XI R2 SP2 Collaterals

  6. BusinessObjects Enterprise XI R2 Productivity Pack - WIN - INTL

  7. ISO IMAGE: BusinessObjects Enterprise XI R2 Productivity Pack - WIN - INTL

As I have a Business Objects Enterprise XI R2 SP1 on a test box I was going to test installing Service Pack 2. After reading the “Getting Started Guide” I see that there is a SP2 patch and a SP2 suite. Are Items #3 and #4 above the patch? If so, does anybody know the best way to put together the suite at this point?

Thanks

I have read all the documentation and still can’t work out if MHF1 is included in SP2. It sayd the pre-req is SP1 which is fine we always knew that SP2 wouldn’t include SP1 but that SP3 would include SP2 etc but do you need to install SP2 on top of SP1+MHF1?

I am installing now on top of SP1 + MHF1 to see what happens…

I was also assuming that CHFs and other think like any Daylight Savings patches are included in SP2. Any ideas?

Thanks!

Up to CHF16 is included but I’m getting confused about the installation here.

There is a SP2 collaterals CD and a Productivity pack CD. I though you would install the collaterals first, i.e. install Live Office for SP2 and then PP. However when you run setup from the collaterals CD for Live Office it says it is installing “Live Office Productivity Pack” - I though I had better read the instructions at this point but all the PDF’s (and there are a few) just say the documentation is on the website - only it isn’t!!

There is a Full installation including SP2 and a SP2.

The SP2 is not yet available, the full installation cannot be used to upgrade a MHF1 or SP1 installation.

The SP2 include the MHF1.

LiveOffice is a separate add-on, as Information Worker.

SP2 is available from the ESD site. I added SP2 to a SP1 + MHF1 install and it worked fine. You have to install Productivity Pack next and then Live Office for Productivity Pack from the collaterals CD.

Mind you after all the installs I can’t find Voyager anywhere! And yes I am looking on the Java InfoView!!

Here’s another thread on SP2

As far as I know the new features include
Voyager
New OLAP tool

Search
New search that searches inside documents
                       eg rpt,wid files

QaawS
Query as a web service (server side) is now installed as
part of enterprise. The patch you used to need to allow
swf (flash) files to be used natively in dashbaords is also
included. You can also store Xclesius xlf files.

The client side tool is included in the SP2 collaterals.

Live Office
The query panel is now in LIve Office (used to be in Business
Query but removed from last version)

LO/DM
Live Office and Dashboards now support Webi report parts you
can used just a chart/table from a webi report in a dashboard
with no menus. This is also supported in Live Office for Excel,
Powerpoint and Outlook integration I believe although I have not
       tested this
I am not sure if this is all but it is all I am aware of.

I’ve download and installed SP2 on Windows Server 2003 Std Edition R2 with all the latest MS patches. As per the contents of SP2 here is a quote from Tech Support:

Mike
Any words of Wisdom for us ?

It seems to me that SP2 works fine on Servers without SP1
But on DeskI complains if SP1 is not installed
Totally confused !!

psjkxp :uk: (BOB member since 2005-08-19)

The installation is really easy a couple of clicks and a lot of hurry up an wait.

mcliffordgoo :us: (BOB member since 2003-02-13)

SP1 needs to be installed first.

mcliffordgoo :us: (BOB member since 2003-02-13)

Does it install if SP1 is not present or does it stop ?
