BO Training

What kind of comments / recommendations can anyone give me about Business Objects 5.0 training? In searching the list archives I found some messages from a while back mentioning COMPUEXCEL, DSS Solutions and Integra Solutions. Of those, Integra appears to be the only one offering 5.0 classes. Any good experiences, bad experiences, etc.? Thanks for you input…

We just had Integra Solutions training for BO 5 for intermediate and advanced users and were extremely happy.

I would recommend the training provided by acuma.co.uk if you are based in the UK.

We are just getting started using Business Objects 5.0.2. We used Business Objects of America for all of our training. We used both off-site and on-site customized training. We had very good experiences with them. The company was very cooperative and the instructors were very knowledgable. We continue to ask a few questions from one of the instructors in particular. If you are training large groups of people (especially non-technical users), the best instructors are usually the ones that are instructors by trade, and have learned Business Objects. In our experience; they seem to teach the product in a manner that non-technical people seem to understand better. Good luck.

We here at Lord, Abbett & Co. highly recommend DSS Solutions. Both for training and consulting. They have a state of the art training facility located in New York City, Times Square. Their training class is for version 5. They also do training for version 4 on request. Check out their web site, http://www.dss-solutions.com, and their phone number is (888) 377-7658.

Hi All,

We here at Ford Motor have been using Braun Consulting for the initial setup of the Universes and for training.

So far, we’ve had many problems with data integrity. To the best of my knowledge, we still don’t have a viable environment to work in. Not sure if it’s because of Braun or us internally.

I’ve been lurking on this list and listening to all of you folks. We still use FOCUS and Access much more than BO. I’m still not convinced that BO is the be all/end all our people say it is. Plus, it’s still not very well supported.

Has anyone else been using Braun?

We had a lot of problems initially at my previous company. We had a consulting company set up our universes initially. I think that BO is only as good as the people who are setting up your data relationships. I think it’s very important that you not just let a consulting company set you up without a lot of input from you. It would be difficult for anyone to come into an organization without knowing anything about the database, the data, or the needs of the users, and create workable universes/reports. Maybe it’s not the specific consulting company but the consulting concept. I consult and I know that I was here about 6 months before I felt knowledgeable enough to set things up in a meaningful and useful way. It just takes that long to know what to ask. I hope that makes sense!

I think BO is great and this list is the best support available.

We just completed a round of general Business Objects training in June with InfoSol, Inc. We had an instructor flown from Arizona to teach 2 sets of a 2 day Reporting class, a 2 day Designer class and a 1 day WebI end user class. He was very knowledgeable and the price was very reasonable. I wouldn’t hesitate to bring him in again. The instructor that we had is Jean-Francois Cayron. You may have seen his name on the ListServ answering questions. You can reach out contact, Tracy Greenwell, if interested at InfoSol (708-447-0335).

One other more alternative which I believe would have also worked out is having Dave Rathbun instruct training. He also is a BObj instructor that answers many ListServ questions and appears to be very knowledgeable. He is with Integra. You can reach Dave’s contact, David Byrd, if interested at 214-637-6622.

The contact I had with DSS Solutions is Tonya Williams. You can reach her at twilliams@dss-solutions.com. I don’t have a phone number.

Good Luck!!

I agree with all of the comments made thusfar. Consulting is only helpful if you are willing to participate fully with the consultants. There is no way a consultant can know everything necessary to implement a tool like BO.

As for training, there are lots of alternatives. BASE Consulting is the only Platinum Partner BO has in the Western Region. We have a training center in Oakland and teach most all of the standard BO courses. We also do onsite and custom training. At the request of BO, we will be opening up another training center in Los Angeles. We have many BO certified trainers and often are asked to teach courses for Business Objects in their facilities.

Check out www.baseconsulting.com

We also teach a UC Berkeley extension course in data warehousing.

Steve,

What’s the deadline for opening a training center in LA? Do you plan to teach there the extension course in DW as well?
