BO Query - Converting old BO Reports.

Hi All BO Query Experts,
I am new to BO, so I have tons of questions, (Please don’t get scared), some of them might just be basic stupid questions.

  1. I believe if an old BO report uses more than one DP and they are
linked then we can’t convert these reports to BO Query.

  2. Also reports that use “Free Hand SQL” can not be converted to BO also.
Is there a way around these ??

  3. What about report that have more than one Data Providers but they
are not linked, can we convert those ??

Thanks guys

Are you talking about Business Query for Excel?

You can save a BO report as a .BQY file.

But, your questions are good one. The only ones that can be “converted” are those that have 1 dataprovider that comes from a universe.

Yes I had meant BO Query for Excel.

Well if we can convert reports only with one DP then BO Query for Excel is really of no big use, specially if you want to convert your old reports to use BO Query for Excel.

I tried to convert one of Report and got error “Can not Refresh the Data Provider ??”

When I say "Insert query as is’ then it just pastes the data into Excel ??

Can we not preserve the old formattings of the report ???

Like Breaks etc…

Business Objects is a Query and Reporting tool.

Business Query is a Query tool with no reporting.

When you convert things over, you won’t get anything other than the data provider.

Why do you want to drop so much functionality and use Excel?

We were under the impression that Excel plug in will allow users to have their queries run in Excel and allow them to save data in Excel directly
along with other BO features.

Of course its a trial version only, so I see very least chances of our company buying it after exploring all things.

Thanks.

Business Query is a great product!

It lets you use universes to create queries to populate spreadsheets. The queries are refreshable. All of your Excel features are available. All features related to building BO queries is available. There are even som really cool features in the query building process that only exist in Business Query. It’s awesome to be able to fill in prompts with values from the spreadsheet.

Report formatting in Excel is an function of Excel. That makes sense because the Excel syntax and functionality is different than that of BO.
